The Kate Connor Chronicles

by Hannah C

Prologue

I see my life in flashes now. Flashes of the past, present, and future. Flashes of happiness and pain, love and loss. The before and the after. Peace and War. The flashes of my once normal life, before everything I held dear was lost and my life became nothing more than a game of survival. The times when people lived in houses and slept on warm beds. A time when children were happy with not a care in the world, never wondering if there would even be a tomorrow to look forward to. Flashes of a time before the machines destroyed all of that.

But I can't say all things were completely terrible after I found out the truth, after I found out what was to come. Sure there was indescribable pain and loss, I cannot deny that. But after the first initial wave of loss, there were somethings, or should I say someone, that brought back happiness into my life. If it wasn't for that day that tore away from me all the things that I held to be true, I would have never met the person that made all the pain in my life worth it: My husband. He has given me so much. Love, happiness, laughter, but most of all he gives me hope. Hope, not just for me, but for everyone left. Hope that one day this war will be over. Hope that one day we will, once again, be able to live in the sunshine and be able to truely live. Hope that one day we won't have to worry about all of our loved ones being hunted down and murderd by cold, soulless machines. He is my hope and I love him with all of my heart. Of course, ours is not a romance story. It is a story of war and a fight for survival, and there was not always love. Would you like to hear it?

I write this now so that people will know of my tale. Of what happened to me to make me become a leader in the Resistance. A tale of how I bacame Kate Connor. How I fought, even before Judgement day came, against the machines set out to destroy mankind.

But the story does not start with Kate Conner, it starts with a sixteen year old named Kate Brewster.
