The idea for this popped into my mind when I was reading the Sin War Trilogy, namely at the point where Trag'Oul tries to get direct access to Sanctuary. It's here that there's the subtle but key revelation that there are worlds other than Sanctuary, realms other than the High Heavens and Burning Hells... Not that the dragon could ever experience them, having to watch over Sanctuary and hope that it isn't destroyed by over-zealous angels or demons, but still...
Balance
Sometimes I stop and think,
And look up to the sky.
How there are so many worlds out there,
More than can be counted by eye.
...
But then I remind myself,
That it's here I'm supposed to stay.
All because of Heaven and Hell,
Oh why must it be this way?
...
Angel and demon detest each other,
No leaving enough alone.
And because of the Eternal War,
I must stay where Balance is sown.
...
But what is evil? What is good?
Is one from the other derived?
Neither force can co-exist,
As has been for all time.
...
So Sanctuary is where I must stay,
Where Balance stems from me.
Acting through those who follow Kalan,
As will be for eternity.
