Darkest Hour: Prolouge
She raced along the darkened corridors, the icy blue satin of her dress swooshing about her. Her tears sprang from her eyes, landing on the satin to leave a permanent stain of sadness. "Please," she choked out, "Don't!"
But it was too late. His amber eyes met hers as the life in them seeped slowly away. "Remember," he whispered, "I will always be with you in your darkest hours."
A sob wrenched violently from her throat, becoming the last sound that he would hear. "No," she cried, falling to her knees in ultimate despair. "Don't leave me, don't leave me," she sobbed and her amethyst ring clattered to the stone floor.
Yet when the sunshine shone brilliantly into her eyes his sacrifice kept her from turning into the ashes that she would have. Even in death he would protect her. Immortal was what he had wished for her..
And immortal was what she had become.
