"I wish upon a star that my baby would be mine, as I pray to the Lord that you shall always be in my arms"

Breanna held her daughter close to her, the little girl was six months old. They were sat in Breanna's mother's front room and it was nearly time for everyone else to be getting up and to be getting ready for work. Baby Caitlin had not wanted to sleep and instead wanted to stay up with her mother, so Breanna had taken her daughter downstairs and sat with her while singing. She loved her first born daughter more than she thought it was possible to love another being.

Hush, little baby, don't say a word.
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird

She had no idea that her mother was stood behind her in the doorway to the stairs, watching them and listening. Breanna rarely ever sung, but with her baby girl it was different. She loved to sing to her child, and sometimes it was the only thing that would calm the child.

And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring

Breanna moved to sit on the sofa, and smiled seeing her mother's beautiful face, but continued to sing to her little girl who was gradually falling to sleep in her arms.

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass

Deannah moved to sit beside her daughter and grandchild, and held them both close, as Breanna leant into her mother's arms and smiled feeling safe and happy.

And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat

Caitlin's eyes were struggling to stay awake, as she sucked on her pacifier and nuzzled into her mother's chest.

And if that billy goat won't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull

Breanna smiled up at her mother, and upon seeing a smile grace her mother's lips, she knew that right here, right now was exactly how it was supposed to be. Her daughter sleeping peacefully on her chest, while her own mother shielded them in a protective embrace.

And if that cart and bull fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town
