Chapter One
Flint didn't know what to expect when he first walked into the halls of Dalton. He had gone to public school up until now, his parents thinking that attending the last four years of school at a private school would give him better chances. Some of the other students fit the same description but most of the boys at Dalton had pedigree and rich parents. He had never expected to truly fit in, expect in a small group of other middle class boys that got a break. Instead, everyone was welcoming. Sure, there was the normal drama that any school had but the students at Dalton were more accepting than any other students Flint had ever known.
Especially, two in particular.
Thad Harwood and Trent Nixon.
Flint, Thad, and Trent met on Orientation Day for new freshman. They hit it off well and Flint had been as surprised to learn that the two were of money as the two were to learn he was what was referred to as a scholarship student. The three of them became best friends and did everything together. Flint and Thad were put as roommates and Trent spent more time in their room then in the one he shared with Jon Hall. The three of them ate together. They did their homework together. They even joined the Warblers together, half way through their second year.
When Flint finally decided to come out at the end of his junior year, it was Trent and Thad that he told first. He then told the Warblers, and finally the entire school came to know. He left the school knowing that each and everyone of his friends was still there for him and that would not change.
But things did change. Just not how he expected.
When he returned to school the following year, his best friends were acting weird. Not that they weren't already weird in their own ways. After all, you had to be quirky to be a Warbler. No, this was a different weird. A weird he had not come across.
He couldn't put his finger on it but the moment they joined him at dinner the first night, he could feel the change in their dynamic. First, Thad was wearing aftershave, which smelled good and made sense as it appeared he was clean shaven. Second, Thad and Trent seemed unusually short with each other but remained perfectly open and warm with him. Even more so, now that he thought about it. He frowned deeply until one of the boys asked what was wrong and waved it off.
"Nothing," he said and continued to eat. He listened as the two tried to carry a conversation but it sounded flat and neither sounded very interested. He caught them glancing at him every little often and then it dawned on him. His eyes widened as he glanced from one, to the other. His heart skipped several beats as it finally became clear.
His best friends liked each other.
And he planned to play matchmaker
