Sam hated Halloween.

Sam hated anything that reminded him of his past, that unsafe life he'd once led. He'd escaped from hunting, was finally safe here at Stanford.

His choice, even though it meant he'd lost Dean.

Sam knew he'd been disowned. It was the price of safety.

Halloween was over.

Now there were only nightmares of his past. Tales of childhood but the woman burning on the ceiling was Jessica instead of Mom.

The real horrors were over, part of his past.

Or so he thought until Dean showed up out of the blue, to say Dad was missing.

A/N based on Sam's comments in season one. Especially the pilot where Dean asks if he thinks he's going to live some normal apple pie life and Sam's reply was "No not normal, safe."
