Hi, this is DrCharisma here. My story, "Paradox Chase", is the first fan fiction I will write. I think that this particular one will distinguish itself from the others. Rather than focusing on Pokemon specifics, it instead focuses more on human behavior and how far people will go to achieve a goal. Nevertheless, I hope that you all can enjoy this story. I can't update too frequently, so we will see how much I can update. PM if you have any questions or suggestions! Have a nice day! BTW, the prologue is supposed to be this short. Starting from Chapter 1, they will all exceed 1k words. Peace!

Paradox Chase

Prologue:

I do not know how, when, or why did I come in here. I do not know why they want me, or how useful I'll be. The darkness is enshrouding my vision. All I see are foggy silhouettes, rushing about in the gloomy, misty room. Jerking my arms and legs is pointless, as they are tightly bundled together with the chair that I am sitting in. These mysterious figures I see before me make me wonder if this is all a dream.

Off in the distance, Absol lays motionless on the ground. They are conducting experiments on it. The scars of electric shock are present all throughout its body. Unfortunately, it cannot seem to hold on any longer. It becomes clear to me that I too, will share Absol's fate.

"Look how vulnerable he is. Not so tough anymore, is he?"

I hear the prideful voice of a silhouette. It is impossible to me to make out what he is saying; my senses are starting to gradually crumble, with no hope of being restored. Everything has slowed down. It is almost amazing to be in this state, where my soul almost seems to transcend reality.

I begin to observe my surroundings. There appear to be ten-fifteen people in the room. They are busily jotting down notes, communicating with each other to understand the situation. All around the room on the walls are charts of some sort explaining previous experiments conducted. Papers and reports are stacked on the table for who knows what purpose. I myself am bonded to a chair, with no way to struggle free. One thing stands out to me. All of the people in the room are wearing identical uniforms, with the giant letter "R" displayed on their front, as if to create a sense of intimidation.

They notice me staring at them. The wretched smile on their faces causes no other emotion within me but rage. Without thinking, I try to break free and rush out of my chair. The shackles of humiliation stop me and prevent me from inflicting their fate. The biggest one comes forward in front of me. Towering over me, I try to preserve my pride and show strength. He strikes me in the nose. Blood comes spurting out of my two nostrils, as I am helpless. Stars are dazzling around my head, as if they themselves, mock me.

"You be a good little lab rat. Do you realize the magnitude of the destruction you caused us? We will enjoy this."

My consciousness is treading on thin ice. The blow to my face has all but ensured my departure to the abyss. The flight into the darkness is always open to strangers; I am just a passenger waiting for the plane to take off. I begin to fade away. The giant brute who struck me is looking down on me, with a swagger I will never forget. My eyes are slowly closing, with my hearing impaired. I see his lips moving, and yet I do not know what he says. He will be the only person I say farewell to. My existence is coming to an end, in which it feels as if I have been cursed by God himself…
