"Come on, Tony we're gonna be late for the fireworks!" Pepper whined as Tony walked down the stairs with his favorite sweatshirt in hand. Pepper had her hands on her hips as she said,
"It took you that long to get a sweatshirt?"
Tony shrugged and said, "I couldn't find one." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they walked out of the Rhodes home and found their way to the pier.
Stark International had bought out a dock by their garage for things they needed to ship overseas, but they never used it; so Tony liked to sit there for fireworks over the ocean every 4th. It was actually his mother that had thought of the idea, and his father and him that had carried it on after she had died.
Rhodey, apparently, would meet them there. Tony sat down at the edge of the dock and stuck his feet in as Pepper sat in his lap with him and leaned back onto him. Soon enough Rhodey came and sat down next to them as the fireworks began.
As Pepper watched the fireworks explode into various colors with awe, she felt the cold air giving her goose bumps and shivered. Tony noticed this and wrapped his sweatshirt around her like a blanket.
"It's so amazing, watching all those colors explode in the sky like a bug on the windshield," Pepper said. Tony chuckled.
"That's so dainty of you to say," Tony teased. Pepper elbowed him playfully.
"Psh, you still love me." She said with a smile.
"Hah, I've got a better analogy," Tony blabbed, "how about this: the fireworks explode like the fiery sparkle in your eyes." Pepper smiled and turned around to kiss him.
"You're so sweet," She said when she parted, leaving her face just inches from his.
Rhodey, sitting next to them, felt awkward as he watched the fireworks and tried to ignore his friends' flirty banter; yet it was hard when they were sitting right there.
"Hey Tony?" Pepper asked as she watched more of the fireworks explode.
"Yah?" Tony responded.
"I love you," She said. Tony smiled and wrapped his arms around her.
"I love you too then." Tony said back.
~…~
After fireworks, Tony, Pepper and Rhodey left the dock and went back to the Rhodes house and hung out for a while and as soon as it got to be late, Tony decided to bring Pepper home.
Walking down the city street, Tony had his hand in Pepper's and Pepper was thinking about how lucky she felt. She thought of the history of today and the history of her and Tony. To be lucky enough to be in a relationship with a rich hunky genius was a pretty lucky break, but to have him really love you and for you to really love him back, is the best thing that could ever happen to me, Pepper thought.
They reached Pepper's [and her father's] apartment and stopped outside their front door.
"Well, goodnight then Pepper," He said.
"What, that's all I get? A simple 'goodnight'? Who am I, your friend?" Pepper teased with a smile.
"Aww, fine," Tony leaned in and kissed her with a quick goodnight kiss.
"That's better." Pepper said when they parted, once again leaving their faces just inches apart.
Tony went back home when Pepper went inside and closed her door, feeling that he had had a good day.
Cheesy ending, I know! But I needed something to drag it out after the fireworks part. It was so mushy -.- haha the beginning was inspired by me watching fireworks last night…anyways review!
