If you want to listen to the song indirectly mentioned in here, look up One Ray of Sunlight by Phantom Planet on YouTube. It's a beautiful song.
Miley was sitting in the dark of her house, finally getting a chance to relax. She had just gotten done with a world tour and had spent her first days home unpacking and unwinding. Now she was done. She could just be.
A loud knocking on the door interrupted her. She got up reluctantly to answer it.
"Hey Mi." The person at the door smiled as he spoke.
"Fuck no." Miley responded, almost slamming the door in his face.
"That's not the reaction I was hoping for."
"Nick, we've done this so many times that it's not even shocking. It's boring."
"I'm not here to ask for you back, if that's what you're referring to." Miley paused before opening the door further.
"You can come in, then." Nick followed her inside and closed the door behind her. "Don't bother turning on any lights, I was relaxing and I fully intend on going back to it once you're done here."
"Mi, I don't blame you for being cold, I don't blame you for being mad at me. I get it."
"Mad? I'm not mad." Miley's rapid pacing around the kitchen convinced Nick otherwise.
"Really? Because you're sure not acting like you're happy to see me."
"Oh gee, I wonder why. I wonder if it's because you stopped talking to me. I wonder if it's because of your new fake girlfriend. I wonder if it's because you ran away when I came home! Oh no, it couldn't be any of those reasons, nah." It felt good for Miley to let off steam. She hadn't yelled like this in a long time.
"Don't bring Delta into this." Miley started laughing.
"I can't believe her name is Delta." She mumbled.
"What'd you say?"
"Hmm? I didn't say anything."
"I love her, Miley."
"You do?"
"Okay, no, but that's not the point." Miley rolled her eyes.
"Well then what is your point, Nick? I'm sure you didn't come here to start a screaming fight. So then, why are you here?" Miley sat down on the ground and looked up at Nick who was running his fingers through his newly shorter hair.
"I wanted to say that I'm willing to work on our relationship."
"And what relationship is that? We're not together. We're not even really friends anymore."
"That's what I mean. I want to work on our friendship. I want to be your friend again, Mi." Miley got teary all of a sudden.
"You do?"
"Yes."
"Nick, I love you. I love you as a friend and sometimes maybe even more than a friend, but I don't see our friendship working. If I get one ray of sunlight to hold in my hand, then maybe we can be happy again, but I don't see it happening right now."
"What does that even mean?"
"It means that we need some happiness in our friendship, but it just isn't there."
"I'm sure we could find something." Nick was desperate and Miley could tell. She was desperate too.
"Well, try if you want to. I'm going to try to."
"Are you really?"
"Yes."
"Okay. I'm sorry for showing up here on such short notice. I'll call you later."
"Good." Miley followed Nick to the door. "And Nick?"
"Yeah?" Miley gave him a tight hug. "I'm glad we're friends again. I'm going to work hard to make this work."
"Me too, Mi. Me too."
Well, I don't really know what this was to be honest, besides something greatly resembling a conversation I've had with an ex-boyfriend.
I know I haven't posted anything in forever, and for that I apologize (if anyone even still reads my stuff haha)
I hope to start writing more one-shots again.
We'll see.
I still love all you guys who actually read my stuff.
