Wilting Flowers
Chapter 1
The Rose wilted before her eyes as Rose lit her cigarette and wondered how the hell her life had turned out this way. It was a bitter cold night in the middle of January as the cigarette between her lips provided her warmth and a little help from the splitting pain that was now growing on her face. If a person on the street looked closely enough, they would see the fresh new bruises that her husband have given her, but if they were friends of his they would just walk away like they usually did when it became between those two. Sighing she inhaled deeply as she looked out at the snow that always reminded her of the night she had met Adrian. The night that her true nightmare had began. She just wouldn't realize it until much later. When it was already too late.
Five years ago
Rose breathed in a sign of relief as she got out of the mess upstairs and went outside to caught a breath of fresh air. Today had been a tough day and she really appreciated to have a moment of peace and quiet out in the ski resort that her and her friends had chosen to spend winter break in. She had to admit for such a beautiful place her time here couldn't be worse. Would this day ever get any better? She could only hope.
"Rough night?"
Rose jumped back as she swung around to see a guy standing behind her. She had hardly noticed him approaching her and now she felt embarrassed. Usually she was good at noticing when someone was behind her, but those skills usually seemed to go out the window when she was upset. Stupid teenage hormones.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you. I was just taking a my nightly stroll and I just happened to run into you. You looked upset so I was just trying to see if you were alright."
"Well you could sure as hell try to make me feel better but I doubt you can."
The man held out his hands in a gesture of surrender as she breathed a sigh of irritation. This was why she didn't like talking to people, she always acted like a total bitch when it came to letting her anger out.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to snap at you. I've just had a really shitty night."
"Care to share?"
"Why should I tell you anything? You don't know me?"
"Which is exactly why you should talk to me about it. I mean who else to tell all your problems to then a complete stranger."
"Doesn't society frown upon that?"
"Only if you're one of the crazy ones."
Rose laughed then looked at the guy. Maybe telling him what happened wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
"Fine. You got me there. I-I had this huge fight with my fiends and my boyfriend."
"What about? If I may ask?"
"Just about the future and where we would all be."
"And you didn't see yourself with them."
"I saw other things for myself than what they did and they didn't like that especially my boyfriend Mason."
"You don't see a future with him?"
"I don't."
"It's always a life altering moment when that happens."
"I really didn't want it to be."
"You may not think this now, but this will work out in the end."
"I sure hope your right about that, but for right now I should get back to my friends."
"Before you go can you answer one more question for me."
"Okay."
"What's your name?"
"Rose. Rose Hathaway."
And with that she was gone as present Rose wondered what the hell had happened to the Adrian that night. The one who made her feel so safe before he turned into her own personal nightmare.
