My muse loves Team 7. I am a slave to inspiration. Hence Team 7 drabbles happen. It's for the 100 Themes Challenge, and it's...kind of historic introspection or something, I guess.

61) Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, there was a man who loved a woman. Her beauty is legendary, though she thought herself plain, and his power is carved into the land forever, though he was once the weakest of his generation.

But back to the love. He loved her with all the bright constancy of the sun, following her and helping her and smiling with her triumphs. She, though, did not love him. She loved another man, a man with the moon in his eyes and shadows in his path.

He did not love her. He – as the moon must – loved the sun, though he never showed it. The sun and moon may never be as one, it is their duty to walk different paths, and when those paths cross the whole world shakes in darkness. But still, the sun...

Because he loved her, he chose to chase the moon, and bring him to her regardless.

She did not understand, she simply lived. She was neither sun, nor moon, nor stars; she was just a woman.

Eventually, she got her moon, who went to her because he loved the sun, and the sun...he had moved the heavens – chased and fought and dragged him back – had fought to bring the darkness home to his love's side. She was joyful, and the man who loved her was happy for her, and the man she loved was content with that.

They all died, eventually, as men and women must. They became legends; the sun the king, and his love spread out to all the land, the moon and his loving wife the fuel for his greatness.

Because sometimes, it is enough to love, without a happy ending.
