Tohru sat on the roof and gazed at the setting sun. The slight breeze and colorful sky proved to be the perfect somnolent for her aching heart. She now understood why Kyo had so many times gone up there when he was feeling depressed.
CRACK!
"Aah!" Tohru's scream tore through the silence.
"Damn it! You practically split my eardrum!"
"K-Kyo! Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! I-I just heard a crack and my first instinct was to scream. W-what are you doing up here?"
"What are you doing up here? I'm always up here," Kyo replied.
"I-I just wanted some time alone, in a quiet place. I always see you up here when you're depressed, and well, I just thought it would be a good place."
"Are you depressed?" Concern leaked onto Kyo's expression.
"Um… NO! O-of course not! I just… oh, I don't really know!" She stared at him desperately.
"Look, you're aloud to be upset sometimes. It's normal. Holding your feelings in just makes it worse. You can talk to me."
"I…. thank you." Relief showed in Tohru's face and she was about to hug him when she remembered the curse. "Oh, sorry."
"So, what's been troubling you?"
"It's a long story," Tohru replied quickly. She was in no mood to share this information with Kyo, or anyone else for that matter. It was a secret, one of the few secrets she ever kept. And the secrets she kept were secrets for a reason. She never wanted to cause anyone discomfort.
"We have a long time," Kyo replied simply. Tohru sighed, she knew he wouldn't give up.
"Ok. You see, I've been blind until recently. Hatsuharu gave me a hint, Hanajima hints at it, Uotani hints at it, but all of the hints just went in one ear and out the other. I feel so stupid!"
"Ok, you're speaking in code. Do you mind telling me what these 'hints' are?" Kyo asked impatiently.
"I'm sorry. Well, basically the hints are that you and Yuki don't just like me." Tohru's face flushed red. A moment later, so did Kyo's. "And, um, this information has just dawned on me. I think about when we first met and how you guys act now, and you guys are so different. Kyo, you're a lot nicer and more calm, and Yuki isn't so secretive and doesn't bottle up all his emotions. I don't mean to see arrogant or anything but I do believe it's because of me. Well, that's what Hatsuharu said anyways.
"After thinking about it for a while, I've also realized that I don't just like you guys either. It's just that, what am I supposed to do? Do I just confront one of you and tell you how I feel? And what about the other, do I just leave him lonely and depressed? And who do I pick if I do confront one of you? It's just so confusing and frustrating! I just don't know what to do." Hot tears began to roll down Tohru's cheeks.
"Don't cry!" Kyo desperately searched his pockets for something to wipe her tears with. Finding nothing, he reached out and touched her face, gently wiping the tears. Tohru stared at him. After he realized he had just touched her face, had just gotten so close to her, he reddened and inched away. Tohru smiled sadly.
"You both are so…. loving."
"I should go." With those words, Kyo swiftly swung himself off of the roof. Once again, Tohru found herself alone, now staring at a darkened sky and the lonely white sphere people called the moon.
