Never Saw it Coming
By MollyTheWanderer
Desmond didn't understand what was happening. His father had taken a bat to the animus while Shaun threw everything on his desk that wasn't screwed down into a satchel. A terrible pain had blossomed in Desmond's chest.
"What?", Desmond glanced down to see red beginning to soak his white hoodie, he looked up at Becca. Becca, with a gun in her hand. Desmond stumbled, already feeling weak, struggling to keep himself upright.
"I don't understand…"
"I'm sorry, Desmond!" There was pain on Becca's face, but it didn't explain anything.
"We're done here, we need to go." Shaun and Bill had set fire to what was left of their work stations, both seemed intent on ignoring Desmond.
"You're Templars?!" Desmond exclaimed. There was so much pain; it was getting hard to breath.
"I'm sorry Desmond, I'm so sorry it's, just. It was our job and-"
"It's just business, Desmond, nothing personal." Becca cringed as Shaun interrupted her. She looked from Desmond to Shaun and back. She didn't lower the gun.
Desmond backed into the wall, using it for support, his sight was going fuzzy; he felt dizzy.
"Dad?" Bill Miles didn't even flinch. Desmond's mind reeled. It wasn't real; none of it had been real. Vidic's ire, Lucy, the botched rescue attempt, it was all a set up. And all this time on the road, they'd never been seriously attacked, never been openly pursued. Desmond had spent months in the animus, training, revealing the Assassin's secrets…all of it went right into the Templar's waiting hands. His own father had betrayed him.
"It was the only way, Desmond." He said. "We knew you wouldn't cooperate, and time was short. We can't bring order to the word without your knowledge, and we couldn't chance loosing you to the Assassin's. The Father of Understanding will forgive me for this."
"Becca." Shaun said again. His voice was cold, unfeeling.
And then Becca put a bullet through Desmonds' head. His body crumpled to the ground, blood pooling all around him.
Seriously, this just came to mind last night. I haven't finished AC3, so don't spoil it for me, I just realized how easy this ending would be. I mean, it's a perfect way to end Desmond's story, and then in the next game you can back track and go through all that time again with 'REAL' assassins (not that Desmond isn't a real assassin, but everybody else in this fic sure ain't). I really hope this doesn't happen. But it's there, and it would totally work. P.S. I REALLY don't like Bill Miles (even if he is Q), so if he was revealed to be a Templar it really wouldn't bother me.
Desmond and the Gang belong to Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft. This is fanfiction written for tickles and grins.
Reviews are loved. More than Faves even.
