Duran Duran was my favorite band before Cold War, but after that episode, I got the idea of writing a story based off one of their songs. So, this story is based off Duran Duran's "(Reach Up For The) Sunrise". This is one of my favorite one shots out of all the ones I've written so I hope you guys enjoy it.
"You needed me," Clara said, skipping into the TARDIS console room.
"You'll see in a minute," the Doctor answered, fiddling with something on the console. "In the mean time." He flipped a switch then twirled toward Clara and offered her his hand as Duran Duran's "(Reach Up For The) Sunrise" filled the room. "May I have this dance?"
Clara giggled as she took his hand and he pulled her closer. They swayed slowly to a much slower beat than the Duran Duran song that only they could hear.
"So what's all this for," Clara asked after a few minutes.
"Ah," the Doctor said checking his watch.
He quickly pulled back and led Clara to the TARDIS doors. He opened them and gestured grandly toward a dark planet. Clara frowned slightly, but the Doctor quickly held up his finger to curb her question.
"4...3...2..."
Suddenly, a light flared and lit up the world they were floating over. Clara gasped as the sunrise slowly crept across the surface of the world. The world sparkled as if blue and green and red as if made from the best sapphires, emeralds and rubies in the universe. The Doctor smiled at Clara excitedly as she drank in the sight.
"It's beautiful," she breathed quietly.
"Wait," the Doctor said excitedly.
He held onto the edge of the TARDIS and leaned out as far as he could.
"Here. Reach up for the sunrise."
Clara grabbed the other side of the TARDIS door tentatively. She slowly leaned out and reached toward the world and the sunlight.
"I've got you," the Doctor whispered, wrapping his arm around Clara's waist. His breath tickled her ear as he held her. "Reach out and grab the sunlight."
Clara reached out and grabbed at a sunbeam. She quickly pulled her closed hand back to her chest. She looked at her closed hand for a moment.
"Open it," the Doctor whispered.
Clara slowly opened her hand and laughed in wonder at the sparkling sunlight that she had cupped in her palm. As she watched, the sunlight seeped into her skin and disappeared. Suddenly, she felt rejuvenated, as if she had just had the best sleep of her life.
"The star is called Recreantur. It rejuvenates anybody who touches it. The people of the planet can go years without sleeping," the Doctor said.
"It's wonderful," Clara whispered.
The Doctor smiled at Clara as she watched the sun rise on the planet below.
