Juliet groaned as her peaceful sleep was shattered by the now all-too-familiar sound of the baby waking up in the next room.

Not just waking up….

Waking up mad.

For a moment, she held her breath and laid completely still, pretending she was still sleeping. Next to her, she knew that Shawn was doing the same thing.

If either of them acknowledged they were actually awake, they would have to get up and deal with the screaming baby.

If she could just hold out a little longer, Shawn would eventually cave and she could get back to sleep…

Suddenly, Shawn let out a tiny, stubborn snore…just enough to let her know he was definitely asleep and certainly unaware of the ear-splitting howl coming through the wall.

Juliet sighed and sat up, elbowing him in the ribs.

"Come on. I know you're awake."

Shawn rolled over, blinking innocently.

"What?" He murmured with a dramatic yawn. "I was sleeping, Jules…"

"Yeah. Okay." She rolled her eyes. "Like you could sleep through that."

"Sleep through what?"

"Shawn! The baby's screaming!"

"Is she…?"

"Knock it off. Just go deal with it. Please. I fed her an hour ago. It's your turn!"

Shawn sat up slowly.

"I'll rock-paper-scissor you for it." He offered, putting his hand behind his back and grinning.

"Shawn--"

But Shawn wasn't about to listen to her protests.

"One, two, three…shoot!" He counted.

They both quickly selected their weapons when he hit shoot.

"Scissors beat rock." Shawn declared, grinning as he playfully cut her fist-rock with his finger-scissors. "Have fun. Try not to make too much noise. I'm sleeping in here…"

He pulled the covers over his head and rolled over, but Juliet wasn't about to let him get away with it that easily.

"Shawn, rock beats scissors!" She insisted, pulling the covers away from him.

He rolled back over and looked up at her, appearing completely baffled…as if his world suddenly made a little less sense.

"But scissors stab rocks."

"No. Rocks smash scissors."

"Then, what beats rock?"
"Paper."

"Paper?" Shawn snorted, sitting up again. "Paper beats rock? How does that work? It's a rock!"

"I don't know." She shrugged, giving him a push towards the edge of the bed. "I didn't make the rules. I just enforce them. Go take care of the baby!"

"But I'm all toasty warm!" He whined, tugging on the blankets until she finally released them.

"Well, so am I!"

"But you're tougher than me." Shawn pointed out. "You're a cop…you can take it!"

"I'm a cop." She agreed, gesturing at the door. "So I could arrest you if you don't do it!"

"Really?" Shawn grinned, raising an eyebrow at her. "'Cause that totally be hot! Would you interrogate me and everything?"

"I'd handcuff you."

"Really?"

"No."

"Damn…that's cold, Jules." Shawn groused, huffing.

She laughed and nudged him towards the door one more time.

"Go take care of it. Please. I'll get the next one."

He groaned and dropped his feet over the edge of the bed, wincing as they hit the cold floor.

"It's like walking on ice!" He moaned piteously.

"Yeah…" She yawned, pulling the blankets over her head and rolling back over. "That sucks…try not to make too much noise. I'm sleeping in here."
