Chapter One – Prolog
~ A Short Resume Of What Have Happened After The End Of Season 3 ~
Elena turns into a vampire, then she and Rebekah gets caught by Pastor Young and the city council. Later, after Damon frees Elena and Rebekah, he and Rebekah kill the Pastor and the other 11 council members.
A few days later, the town holds a memorial for the 12 people that Damon and Rebekah killed, but officially it's called an "Animal Attack". At the memorial a stranger, Connor Jordan, shows up and tries to kill Elena and Caroline. Bonnie finds out that Connor is a part of an ancient group of vampire hunters called "The Brotherhood of Nyx". Those hunters say to have been blessed by Nyx with enhanced strength, speed and an enhanced hate for vampires that helps them to focus on the hunt, but makes it almost impossible for them to have any relations to anyone. Any human that's responsible for killing a hunter, will be forced to take that one's place in the Brotherhood. If a supernatural being kills a hunter, or if they die by an accident, a new hunter will still be chosen, but he or she could be anyone.
All hunters have a tattoo on their right arm that only a hunter (or "unawaken" hunters) can see and goes from their hand up to their elbow. When Connor meets Jeremy, he finds out that Jeremy can see his tattoo, and when Elena kills Connor to stop him from killing Damon, Jeremy becomes the new hunter and tries to kill his sister. Bonnie is forced to put a spell on him that makes him go into a deep sleep until they find a way to turn Jeremy human again. Bonnie starts searching for a cure for Jeremy, which leads her towards dark magic (Expression) and an old tale about a cure that turns any supernatural being into human. Damon wants to find that cure so that he can turn Elena human again, but Bonnie can't find any lead.
Tyler wants to unsire Klaus's hybrids and turn them into his own army and with him is the werewolf Hayley, who helped Tyler to break his sire-bond to Klaus. When Klaus finds out about Tyler's plan, he gets furious and wants to kill Tyler's mother, Carol, as punishment. But instead of finding Carol, Klaus finds Hayley and when she starts to defend Tyler, Klaus kills her. When Tyler finds Hayley's body, he runs from Mystic Falls with a promise of revenge.
A cold January night, a drunk Kol shoes up in town with several friends in tow and soon those friends starts feeding and killing locals. To stop people from finding out that vampire exists; they kill them, which make Kol VERY angry, so he compels Elena to kill Jeremy. Meanwhile Matt and Caroline moves around Jeremy's sleeping body, Damon and Bonnie goes after Kol. But in order to break Kol's compulsion, they need a White Oak-dagger or the White Oak-stake. First they try to use the stake, but Kol makes one of Klaus's hybrids bite Damon, then takes the stake from him and hides it. To get one of the daggers, Caroline offers Klaus a date with her as well as Kol's daggered body, and even though Klaus is against them attacking Kol or the fact of him losing one of his precious daggers, he happily agrees. Bonnie is the one that daggers Kol, but not before he bites her in the neck, making her lose a lot of blood, but Klaus saves her by giving her some of his blood when he picks up Kol's body.
