Scar laid in the dark den by himself. He didn't feel like going outside, not wanting the anyone in the kingdom to see the result of his recent accident. Ahadi, his father, had suggested that he spend time alone for awhile and rest. He had left a large leaf filled with water for Scar to drink, but all he could do was stare at his reflection before swiping at the leaf with his paw.

"Scar! Scar!"

Scar groaned as his older brother, Mufasa, came into the den with his usual cheery smile plastered on his face.

"Mother and the lionesses have returned from the hunt. They've brought zebra and antelope, your favorite."

"Then I suppose that I'll have to eat it, won't I?" Scar asked, his tone sarcastic.

Scar dragged himself out of the den, with Mufasa following close behind him. By the time they were halfway off Pride Rock, they were walking side by side.

"What's come over you, Scar? You've not left Pride Rock for two weeks. Father and Mother are worried and so am I."

"Well, I see no need. After all, I'm sure this is what you wanted."

Mufasa halted. "What do you mean?" He asked.

"It was your fault that I had my...encounter with the buffalo, wasn't it?"

"That's not true! You had convinced Boma to fight me." Mufasa argued.

Scar rounded on Mufasa. "Because Father had decided to make you king."

"That is his decision. I will take my place on Pride Rock, if that is what Father wishes."

Scar chuckled lightly. "Daddy and you are quite the team, Mufasa. You follow him as if you were his shadow, and he just simply forgets the simplest things. Mainly, a promise to his youngest."

"Father didn't forget his promise. We were suffering from a drought and he had to place the Pridelands first."

"He had promised me before the drought begun! I should have been taken on the hunt!" Scar practically shouted.

"Don't be so childish, Scar. Father has-"

Scar gave a low growl and swiped at Mufuasa's face, drawing blood. Ahadi and Uru rushed over to their sons.

"What's the meaning of this, Scar?" Ahadi bellowed.

"Mufasa, are you all right?" Uru licked the blood off her older son's cheek.

"Yes, Mother."

"He called me a child. I'm no more the child, than he is a spoiled brat." Scar said simply.

"Taka, please." Uru said gently.

Scar rushed off and Ahadi was about to go after him when his mate blocked his path.

"You stay here. I'll speak with him."

Uru went off after Scar and found him by a watering hole, gazing down at his reflection sadly. She approached him and sat down next to him, looking down at the water as well.

"You and Mufasa are growing so fast, Taka. I remember when you were cubs, you had been so happy, so lively. Now, you seem so angry, so quick-tempered."

"I apologize for your disappointment in me." Scar nearly whispered.

Uru faced Scar. "I'm not dissapointed in you. I'm worried. Taka, you mustn't allow anger to consume you."

"Mufasa is his favorite. That's why he chose him to be king."

"That's not true. Your father loves you both, with all his heart. He believes that since Mufasa is older that he is able to take on more responsibility and make wise decisions for the sake of the Pridelands." Uru explained.

Scar turned away from his mother, but Uru stood in front of him. "You are loved, Taka. Never think that we don't love you."

Scar's expression softened and he nodded his head. Uru nuzzled him and then walked away, with Scar following close behind her.
