~WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW~
The cell was depressing, tight, and scary. But she supposed it was what she deserved. How she managed to completely tick off two planets in less than a week was beyond her.
Lt. Shayera Hol of Thanagar paced in the small space available. Since she had nothing better to do she reviewed the past: good and bad. Her early days on Thanagar were spent training and pleasing her parents. She then enlisted in the Thanagarian Corps when the Gordanians rose in threat level. She was skilled and quickly promoted. Then she met Hro. She had just come back from maneuvers and there he was. Talking to her commanding office. From there they started dating and fell in love. Then came this: her special mission. She is torn whether to wish it was never thought of or thankful it was. She was briefed and sent to earth. She started cleaning up the scum and crime in her immediate area; she operated under the radar. She had a few encounters with other heroes but they were few and far between. Then she heard it. It was a call. She answered and, now, it led to this. Being confined in a cell aboard a vessel from her home planet.
Lieutenant and Angel.
Those were what titles she had, what she was seen as. She was a Lieutenant in Thanagar's proud army. She was a hero; a savior of earth, and her wings helped give her the angel symbol. But in keeping some secrets and telling others all that she was had been stripped away. To leave this pathetic, on the verge of tears creature.
Traitor and liar.
Those were her new names. And she deserved them. She thought of all the people in her life: of her dad telling her to be better and remember what she stood for, Hro saying he loved her then trying to destroy Earth, of Batman and his quiet, strong presence among the Earth's greatest heroes, of Superman and his hopeful attitude, of J'onn and their short-lived comradeship, of Flash and his jokes, of John and his strength and courage and their new-almost-love. And finally of the high and mighty Princess of Themyiscera. Even though she had been exiled she held her head no less high, didn't act any different still fighting the good fight. And Shayera begrudgingly respected her for it. She had lost her home, her sisters, her mother. But she went on. After that happened Shayera had to confess, she was waiting for perfect princess to break down. But she didn't, instead Diana tried to bond with Shayera.
'Her first attempts were funny.' Thought the winged warrior, 'But she finally got it right.' And if she wanted to admit it to herself Shayera was glad Diana had opened up to her the bonds of sisterhood. Then it all went away.
Shayera really hoped that her friends, if they could bear to look at her without killing her, would survive. She wanted to apologized, to make things right. She stopped pacing. There was a noise. She listened. Suddenly, three unconscious Thanagarian soldiers dropped in front of her cell. Diana stepped into view. She, as always, looked pretty.
She turned her head and looked at Shayera. Shayera tried to hold her powerful gaze. "I should leave you here to burn." The Princess of the Amazons was right. But Wonder Woman raised her sword and slashed the controls that were keeping Hawkgirl caged. The Princess moved on.
Shayera prayed to Diana's gods, to anyone willing to listen. 'Please let us make it out of alive.'
Because, she mused as she grabbed a downed soldier's mace, she wanted her sister back.
