Katniss was just lying there in her and Peeta's bed with the warmth of his body pressed up against hers to provide with the only warmth the room held, the window wide open on cold winters night was never great but it was the only way Peeta could sleep well having Katniss next to him was better than a window any day.
They both had been married for a couple of years now and in those couple of years did Peeta had asked and hoped that they would have children. Having a little version of the both them mixed together and created by their love for one another … but Katniss had vowed from the moment she could think for herself and work out the world herself that she would never have children of her own. Even though there were no more Hunger Games happening every year and there was no more President Snow, Panem was safer than it had ever been in over century.
Every day, week, month, year did Katniss battle whether or not to have children and every time the question crossed her mind she would still say the same thing "No," but it broke her heart when Peeta would ask her and she would refuse, she loved Peeta more than she could tell him.
Peeta was the one that was so open with his feelings about her ever since his interview in the seventh-forth Hunger Games interview, when he had openly said that he had crush on her. Katniss haven brought up in the Seam had taught herself to rid her face on emotion and bottle up her feelings and try not to fall in love, as to her it was a sign of weakness.
Today had been like any other day. Peeta had gone down to the baker, where he worked, and Katniss went to hunt for a bit to try and get food on their table (even though times had changed District 12 still had it a little hard when it came to food). Peeta had made cheese buns – her favourite – and they had stew with it from some of the rabbit she killed on her journey hunting, but today was there wedding anniversary and they both didn't want to do anything to special because they both knew that they would have more anniversary's to come. They both just talked and cuddled with them sharing sweet and passionate kisses and her and Peeta having a tickle fight on their living room floor, Peeta had just pinned Katniss under him with her still laughing and her face lit up and that's when he asked the question that he had been asking for the past couple of years; "Do you want to have kids with me? Real or not real?" it was at this moment that Katniss broke out of the trance that Peeta often held her in when she was this happy with him and just replied "I don't know Peeta, I don't know … just yet,"
Katniss couldn't help but want to hit herself for being so hard on Peeta and be so unfair to him, she loved him and he loved her. She really hated herself from depriving him of something he wanted for so long and wants so much now. Katniss played with her wedding ring and engagement ring that held the pearl that Peeta had given her in the Quarter Quell – seventh-fifth Hunger Games - a couple of years ago.
When Katniss was even close to telling Peeta that she was ready for kids did one emotion overcome her and control her, fear. Fear that she wouldn't be a good mother or that their children wouldn't have life that they would deserve so much. Katniss felt Peeta stir and his arm wrapped around her waist pulling her closer to him, to his warmth. It was then that Katniss felt more protected and she knew what to do. Before she finally let sleep control her and welcome her into a sleep where not even her dark nightmare would follow her tonight.
"Real, Peeta."
