Author's Note: This was supposed to be a drabble, but no matter how hard I tried, I was unable to write this at mere 100 words. I apologize for the shortness.

And I thank Black Maya once again, because the whole plot for this story came from her expectations of my brothers. :P

Disclaimer: No. Everyone knows that I do not own Gakuen Alice.

At age 43, Subaru Imai had everything a man could ever wish for—success, respect, a loving wife, a great family, and faithful, loyal friends.

That was the reason why he was thoroughly surprised when he was asked a question he had not pondered on for so long.

"Do you have any regrets?" asked a journalist.

He was taken aback by the question, as he was truly famous and successful; he thought that people would not wonder about his regrets in life, his mistakes, his failures.

His heart, though, seemed not to comply with his train of thoughts, as almost immediately, a reply on his subconscious was formed.

I do. I was not there for my sister when she needed me the most. I had not seen her grow, take her first steps, and utter her first word. I was not there to defend her from the bullies. I simply watched, and hoped to protect her from afar. Simply put, I wasn't really able to play my role as her older brother. Big brothers were supposed to be overprotective, weren't they? They were supposed to be their little sister's superheroes, their knights in shining armor, right? But then again, I was not.

But instead of saying all those, he chose to reply in a rather…cryptic manner.

"I was unable to play the role of Superman," came his short reply.

It was not questionable in any way, why that short statement got to be the newspaper's headline the following day.

And while everyone was busy trying to decipher what those eight simple words meant, a raven haired woman merely smiled, not at all surprised by her brother's reply.

As she diverted her gaze from the newspaper to the busy streets of Tokyo below, all that she could think of was her answer to her brother's statement.

"Ah. But brother, you did."
