The dust from the collapse takes a minute to clear, and Johnny has pulled Alice into his chest to shield her from any flying debris. Alice slowly opens one eye as the dirt settles. Edmund is crawling over to where Vanessa lays, eyes closed and body still. She is splayed out under the collapsed pillar and Edmund catches her hand in his. Looking down at her now, she looks so fragile, laying deathly still. "Wake up Kitten." He chokes out, voice hoarse. He drags himself closer when no response is given. "Kitten?" He groans, weakly shaking her shoulder with what little strength he has left. "Wake up." He croaks and manages to shift so that he's lying next to her. No response. "Kitten wake up." He whispers. Edmund somehow props himself up and gets to his knees. "Wake up, WAKE UP!" Edmund's sudden scream surprises Alice and Johnny, causing her to flinch and him to tighten his arms around her. Edmund lowers his voice again, but now he sounds desperate and his eyes are pleading. "Come on. You have to wake up. We need to get home love! What about Vera?" He pleads with the broken body, a tear slipping down his cheek. He wipes it away angrily when Vanessa remains still. "WAKE UP! Wake up you stupid girl! Come on! WAKE UP!" The police have entered the room and a few of them grab Edmund by his upper arms as he continues to scream at the silent body. He breaks free of the men holding him and bursts over to where Vanessa lays, broken and pale. Her eyes are closed, the dark lashes resting against a too white cheek. "Wake up you stupid girl. I love you." He whispers hoarsely. Alice is now sobbing. She was wrong, she was so wrong about the desperate man in front of her. And not only that, but she had killed somebody. She had done this to Vanessa, to Edmund. The police are now attempting to get him back under their control, but it seems as if he's realized that Vanessa is never going to open her eyes, and he's screaming. It's a heartbroken wail that rings in Alice's ears and she knows that she's never going to forget it. Edmund is crying out for Vanessa and the shouted sobs don't cease as he's dragged into the bag of one of the waiting armored cars. And then he's shouting the name Vera repeatedly and desperately as if the name is all the air he needs. The cries reduce to loud and violent sobs, his whole body shaking with the force of his loss. They throw him into the back of the vehicle and he lands on the cold metal floor with a thump. Edmund sits on his knees, one hand clenching the metal bench and the other on the floor, supporting his weight. He suit is dirty and torn, and his tie is shredded. His face is caked with dirt and dust, tear tracks shining clearly as they cut their way through the grime on their way down. He's screaming again, cursing Alice, Johnny, their team, and the rest of the world. The heavy door swings shut, effectively cutting off any sound that Edmund is emitting. But his tortured cries are still reverberating in Alice's ears. The weight of the situation has finally crashed upon her it seems, and Johnny knows he'll have to talk to Olga about soothing nightmares.
