I Will

By angellwings

I don't want to lose your love,
But what can I do?
I can't make you stay here,
But if you should choose
To go your own way
Where ever you're going,
When ever you turn
Remember this moment.
Remember these words.
I will
Give up my life for you
If you want it,
Give you my heart,
You already own it.

-"I Will" by Jimmy Wayne

Troy could feel his chest tighten at the look on Gabriella's face. Her expression at this moment took him back to their last year at East High. He felt like she was leaving for Stanford all over again. But she wasn't. They were coming up on College graduation. She would be off to Harvard Law School next fall, but right now they were both still in the same place. So why was her expression scaring him?

His worry only increased when she spoke. He knew that tone. He heard that tone over the phone when she told him she wouldn't be coming back for prom or graduation. As soon as he sat down her goodbye speech began.

"Gabby, what are you doing?" He asked seriously with a worried tone. "Haven't we proved that we can make it? That we will make it?"

"Troy, you can't follow me to Harvard. We both know that," She told him quietly.

"Gabriella…"

"I'm serious this time, Troy."

He sighed and realized she truly was serious about this. He could talk to her until his face was blue and she wouldn't change her mind, but that wouldn't stop him from trying. He had spent the next month trying to get through to her, trying to explain that the distance didn't bother him one bit. He had confidence that they would last, but Gabriella would not be swayed. So Troy finally resigned his cause. He couldn't stop her.

"Fine, if this is what you want," he told her as he bit back a frustrated curse.

"This is what I want," She said softly and sadly.

This time there would be no driving all night to bring her back. There would be no saving the day. This time he was leaving it all up to her.

"If you ever…need someone to talk to or someone to be there for you...call me. You know I will be there," He told her with teary gulp as he realized what was actually happening.

Her eyes began to water and he heard her sniffle, "Yes, I do."

"This doesn't change the way I feel about you. You know that too, right?" He wanted her to know that he was still head of heels for her. If she changed her mind he would take her back in a heartbeat. Her goodbye did not change the facts.

"I know," She whispered as she turned and walked away.

And those facts were that Troy Bolton would do anything for Gabriella Montez. Even if it meant letting her go.
