Nightmare

The graveyard was dark. I was lying in the same place i always was, staring at the cross looming above me. It's stone was weathered and cracked. I sighed, and waited. I knew what would come next, and it wasn't pretty. Soon, I thought. Soon it would come. The searing pain, the psycho laughs of the killer above me. I heard rustling nearby. Oh God, I thought. Here it comes. Sure enough, a tall, dark figure melted out from the shadows. He approached the stone I was lying under, smelling the cool night air, searching for the scent of fear. Then, his target was sighted. He laughed meniacally, and raised the splintered wooden stake above his head. I tried to scream, but all that reached my lips was a little puff of air that was quickly cut off as the stake was brought down with incredible force upon my heart. I gasped for air, and all feeling left my the stake was raised again. I winced, I knew what was coming. The pain in my neck was excruciating. My head began to swim, and the world around me spun faster and faster. Soon, I thought, soon i would be free of my nightmare. My killer laughed again, and soon it became demonic as the world spun.

I awoke with a start. I could have sworn i jumped three feet in the air. My heart was beating so incredibly fast I thought it was going to burst. I just layed on the ground to try and catch my breath, my head still spinning. I examined myslef. No strange marks, no blood. Good, I thought. So it was indeed a dream. They can get so vivid sometimes. Normally, though, they don't last for more than a few days. This was my last scheduled day, and what a glorious day it was. I sat for a minute, pondering. I decided I would take a little walk to clear my head. I had fallen asleep in the middle of the day, and soon it would be time to go back home. I saw a little trail in the woods. I followed it, not knowing or caring where I was going. I must have been walking for hours, because the sun was setting below the bloodred horizon. Eventually it was dark, but I had completly lost my way. Normally I know the woods like the back of my hand, but now, I had no idea where I was. A little church sat nearby. I thought it would be a decent enough place to sleep for the night. Just before my hand was about to knock on the door, a priest ran out screaming, "No! Not me! No!" I stared. he didn't seem to notice me as he ran past. I peered into the church. It was an old church, dusty and dark. The pews looked like they were ready to collapse. I sat in one of them, and examined the church walls. They were covered in stained glass. I thought it was beautiful, the way the settung sun shined in through the glass. I decided to walk around for a bit before I fell asleep. I walked outside the church, and around to the side where a small cemetery greeted me. I stepped through the iron gate slowly. Something about this place creeped me out. I walked, enjoying the view of the gnarled trees. The moon was beginning to rise as I strode through. Suddenly, I slipped on something and fell flat on my back. My head hurt, I couldn't get up. The sky was pitch black now, all the glory of the sunset gone. Now, the moon illuminated the graveyard, creating sillouhetes of all the stones. But one in particular looked familiar. I strained my eyes to focus. Oh no, I thought. It can't be. Above me, the cracked and weathered cross loomed above my head. Suddenly I heard rustles coming from the woods. I looked over, terrified. A dark figure moved toward me steadily, and I screamed my last scream as I heard the meniacal laughter of my killer.
