The sun beat down on the red Corvette that pulled into the JAG building in Falls Church, Virginia. The pavement was already boiling, and the sun had been up for only a few hours.

Lieutenant Colonel Sarah Mackenzie stepped out and walked toward the red-brown brick building quickly and once she got past the secretary entered her office that was nestled between to others and the only quiet haven from the noisy common ground that made up the rest of the Judge Advocate General central office. She put down her briefcase and sat back in her chair wishing the migraine that was threatening her would disappear.

"What a lousy night. Haven't had a good sleep since I got home." she thought to herself as she slowly turned her chair with her head back. It was interrupted when she heard a knock on her door.

"Ma'am?"

She turned and said, "What is it, Tyner?"

"The Admiral wants to see you, ASAP."

She sat up straighter.

"Did he say why?"

"No, ma'am. He just wasn't happy. When the Commander went in their and said good morning the admiral said, 'It isn't, and it never will be so. Don't ask me that again!"

Mac got up quickly and walked over to the office with Tyner following from behind.

Opening the large oak door, he knocked on the side of it and said, "Reporting with Colonel Mackenzie as ordered, sir."

"Finally, it took you long enough!" he growled and then looked at Mac and she quickly entered and took her seat.

Harmon Rabb Jr. at besides her and he quickly looked at her and raised his eyebrows to ask if she knew what this was about. She shook her head.

"What is it, Admiral?" asked Harm.

The admiral looked up from his desk and said, "Trouble. That's what it is. SecNav looks like he's
getting revenge for the report we gave him on the captain of the ship that rammed the Turkish one. He's sending us a new lawyer."

"Sir?" said Mac.

"Have any of you heard of Major Alan Templeton?"

"The one from the Air Force who was stationed at Yokota, Japan?"

"The same one."

Mac looked from one to the other and said, "I'm sorry. Who is this?"

"He"s a flamboyant hot-shot who was the terror in the skies when he flew the F-16's. He's escaped four court-martials and ejected three times from his plane because he was outgunned. The military would have gotten rid of him if he wasn't so good, but I didn't know he was a lawyer."

The Admiral put on his glasses and said, "It appears that the military gave him a choice of an honorable
discharge or a transfer to a different branch. He picked JAG."

"I don't see how you need us, Sir." Said Rabb looked toward Chegwidden.

"I want you two to keep an eye on this guy. I don't want him to tear JAG down around my ears. You are to report to me everything he does that I should know about."

The two partners stood up. "Aye, Aye, sir."

"When is he arriving?" said Harm, as he was about to go out the door.

"In a half hour."

Harm stood, and Mac's office and she said, "Is he that terrible?"

"I don't know. There is a lot around him that doesn't make sense. He's been in multiple combat situations in Desert Storm and was able to escape enemy lines after capturing an Iraq Republican Guard leader."

"Sounds like a good soldier."

Harm smiled and finished his story. "Once he got back his commanding officer told him that he was a poor pilot for losing another plane and Templeton hit him."

Mac smiled. "And the admiral thinks we can take care of him."

"We better. Come to think of it. The guy just entering the office is wearing an Air Force uniform."

Mac turned around and was surprised to see, and the handsome reddish-brown haired man with his officer"s
cap tilted flamboyantly to the side. Under his arm was a suitcase and was looking around.

Mac sighed and walked over to where the man was standing and said, "I'm Lieutenant Colonel Mackenzie, can I help you?"

"Major Alan Templeton. I am supposed to report to an Admiral Chegwidden?"

"The Admiral had given me orders what to do about you when you arrived."

The major's blue eyes twinkled, and he sighed. "I see my reputation had come before I did. What did he tell you to do, Colonel, Shoot me on sight?"

Mac chuckled as Harm walked up behind her. "No, but he sounded like he would."

Major Templeton turned to Harm and extended his hand, "Major Alan Templeton."

"Lieutenant Commander Rabb. Glad you have arrived."

"I see you"re a fighter pilot. F-18s?"

"F-14"s."

"Ah, yes. The navy's slow moving aircraft. Get shot down too many times too?"

"Night blindness."

Templeton picked up his briefcase and said, "So, where is my office?"

"Follow me." Said Mac turning to walk off.

Harm raised an eyebrow on how quick she answered, and Templeton caught the gesture.

"Girlfriend?" Templeton asked once she was far enough away.

"No, we are just friends."

"Ah."

Harm turned to face him and said, "Better be careful. She can bite."

"Only hear to do my job, Commander."

Once Templeton had settled in his office and Harm, and Mac left he opened his briefcase. Inside was a silver 9mm and stuck it into his shoulder holster no one noticed him wearing and then took out a picture from the file and looked at it and then back towards Mackenzie.

"Explains why she's a target."

Harm had got a feeling he did not trust this new guy, and he watched him from a distance out of the corner of his eye as he read a file. He saw him pick up a picture and put it down again and then smile to himself. That man was up to something and when he came out of the office and watched him walk out the door.

"Where are you going?" said Mac stepping in his way.

"I"m going in there, Mac. I don't trust him."

"You can't just go to his office?"

"The admiral wanted me to find out what he was up to if he acted suspiciously and I plan to do that."

"Harm, he didn't"t say it that way."

Rabb pushed pass Sarah and said, "That"s what he meant. You watch out if he is coming. Tap on the door with your foot."

"No way. I'm not getting involved in this. We'll get in trouble."

Harm ignored what she said and continued, "I won"t be long."

"Harm!"

It was too late he had entered.

Rabb immediately went to the suitcase and opened it up. Inside was the single picture.

"Mac! You got to see this."

She looked in and then back out at the door that he left from then curiosity got the best of her and
entered.

"What?"

"The picture. It's you!"

She looked at them surprised and the different pictures taken at different times.

"You don't think he"s working for the cop guy who attacked you do ya"?"

"He's still in jail, but that may be possible."

"I wouldn't put it past him. Look at this."

In the back of the note, it said, "Tonight she will be killed."

"We better get out of here," Mac said.

Harm put the pictures back and hurried out the door closing it up.

Just at that moment Templeton walked back and smiled, "Hello, you waiting for me?"

Harm thought quickly. "We were wondering if you would like to go out and to dinner with us?"

"Thanks." He smiled. ", but I"m busy tonight. Thank you."

He entered his office, and Mac and Harm looked at each other with concern.

Mac got out of her car and walked toward the house after work was over. The moon was hidden behind the clouds, and she put a key in the lock. She had left the door opened of the Corvette and Harm slipped out with his gun drawn. Suddenly, she heard something and spun around. In the shadow stood and a man with a gun drawn with a mask aiming at her.

"Drop it!" shouted Harm jumping out.

Behind Harm, a voice said, "You better drop it."

Turning he saw another masked man.

Harm looked at Mac and slowly dropped the gun.

The first man came over and took off his mask.

"Well, Sarah, glad to finally meet you." He said.

He was a young man with a familiar face.

"Do I look familiar to you?" he asked with a smile. "My brother said he was in love with you and you got him arrested. I come to kill you as he wanted too for the betrayal."

"So that cop was in this." Said Harm.

"So you use Templeton to find me." She said looking at the other man.

"Templeton? Whose Templeton?" said the brother.

From behind a voice said coldly. "I'm Templeton."

The two men turned to see Alan standing by the Corvette with his gun drawn.

"Nice try, Franklin. You should have known that I would be ahead of you."

"You're never taking me," Franklin screamed turning the gun at Templeton.

At the same time, Harm reached down and grabbed his gun and spun to fire on the man behind him flipping him into the bush.

As the gun came to face Templeton; the major pulled the trigger hitting Franklin in the chest.

The man dropped to the ground, and Templeton looked in Mac"s direction. "Are you alright?"

"Drop it." Said Harm.

Templeton looked at Rabb and said, "You"re kidding."

"No need, Rabb." Said a voice behind Harm and Mac said, "Webb."

Clayton Webb came over and said, "It"s okay, Rabb. You can trust this guy."

Once in the house, Mac said to Templeton, "What is going on?"

"You're CIA?" said Harm.

"Not quite," Templeton said with a shrug as Clayton watched from around him. "I had been pursuing Franklin for something entirely different when I found out that he was targeting you, Sarah. So, I called in a favor to get transferred to watch you. Didn't expect him to move that fast though."

"So, you're not military?"

"Oh, I am. That's all I'm able to say."

Rabb grunted. "I hate this cloak and dagger."

"I'm only here to be a lawyer," Templeton said with a shrug.

Mac smiled and put out her hand, "Welcome aboard."
