"I love you."
Three simple little words, but when put together in a sentence how could they carry such a heavy meaning? How could it carry so many emotions?
Such simple words that every lover desperately yearns to hear, that every mother whispers to her children before she tucks them in at night. Those words that we all utter at least once, if not many times, in our lives. How can they have paralyzed me this much?
Why was I just stood here with my mouth hanging open like a fish? I mean it shouldn't have stunned me this much, we have been together over a year now after all. Though maybe the fact that he'd been the one to say it first, was the reason my my sudden onset of mutism...Yes that must be it!
It had to be, after all, who would ever expect that, the oaf would mention his feelings before I did?! Even if I had stubbornly told myself that I would never say it first.
I closed my mouth and stared up at the towering man, giving myself a moment to really appreciate the guy. He really was ruggedly handsome in his own way, his white hair did tend to make him look older than he really was, which was a plus as he was 2 years younger than me. His blue eyes felt like they could see into my soul when they gazed at me which unnerved me at times but overall didn't bother me too much. The scar under his eye added to his rugged charm and gave him an air of danger, even if he was just a giant teddy bear, but that was the part I loved about him the most. The fact that for all his muscles and power he could just hold me gently was a huge plus in my book. The annoying manliness obsession I could live without but oh well, when you truly cared for someone from the bottom of your heart, you took the good and the bad...but the bad did earn him a whack from my fan if he got out of hand.
"Are you okay?" He tilted his head to the side, giving me a worried glance.
Whoops, I guess I had been a little wrapped up in my thoughts but I do owe the man and answer, but first he needs to be punished for putting it off for so long.
"What took you so long." I ground out, as I slapped my man on the arm with my fan.
"Ouch! What was that for." He cried rubbing his arm, and looking at me like a scolded puppy. I think my punishment went a little too far.
"Not telling me sooner." I chided, pushing my glasses up my nose in a knowing gesture. "You impossible man." I added leaning in to give my foolish boyfriend a kiss and enjoying the warmth of his arms as they surround me.
"Am I going to get an answer?" He chuckled, as we pulled apart from our embrace.
"I love you too, Elfman."
