If Raven was honest with herself she would admit that the only reason she took a second glance at Hank was because he reminded her of Charles. From his intellectual ramblings to the way he tugged on his shirts when he was nervous. It was ridiculous and obvious to everyone except Hank. She wanted so badly to convince herself that Hank was her prince; that he would see her and find her beautiful (another flaw in her cosmetic makeup-her vanity).
The problem with Hank though, besides not being Charles, is that he was an extremely poor imitation of Charles. The insecurities that she and he shared in the beginning were tearing her apart. What she wanted, acceptance, was something that he was no where near capable of giving her. So she turned her head away from a kiss and went to a cold bed, hoping that she would find freedom there.
The problem with that idea, was that Raven found exactly that. Erik was the opposite of Charles. And if Raven was being honest, that seemed to be the next logical place to go. If she can't stand the imitation than perhaps the opposite would give her what she wants-he doesn't. Erik scares her with wild proclamations of humanity and evolution, strangely from Charles mouth it doesn't sound like a strategy of war.
Charles promised her a lot of things, a home, food, and love. Raven was the one who wanted that love to become something greater. After she climbed (ran) away from Erik's kisses she went to Charles. Naked. Hopeful. Distraught. She wanted him to see her. As a woman. Not a sister that he can claim in front of other pretty blondes. It was desperate. It was foolish. And gods how she wished it had worked.
Instead. Raven was given the sympathetic eyes. She saw pity and turned away from the blue that she dreamed (dreams) about.
If Raven was honest with herself the step she took towards Erik was the step that she wanted to take with Charles. But Raven hates being honest, its so much easier to swallow Erik's philosophies with a smile and forget that Charles-her love-lies broken in the sand. With another woman's arms around his body.
She lies. And forgets the way that he held her as she fell asleep.
