Tap-tap. An owl was tapping on the window. Bill Weasley jumped up from the breakfast table to open the window. It wasn't one of his parent's friends owls so he knew it had to be for his dad from the Ministry or for him from Hogwarts.

He had been waiting for his Hogwarts letter for months. His parents assured him that the Hogwarts letter didn't usually come until summer, but it was already mid-June and what if he was a Squib and couldn't go to Hogwarts and everybody went but him and he had to stay home alone with Mum and Dad?

He carefully opened the pouch and took out the letter inside.

"Dad! Mum! Look what I got! They know where my bedroom is!"

Mum looked up from feeding Ron and Dad looked over his shoulder.

"That's great, Bill!" Dad said and hugged him. Mum joined in the hug while he struggled to get free.

"Come look," she called to the rest of the family. "Bill's gotten his Hogwarts letter! Oh, I'll have to write Auntie Muriel about this."

Percy looked at the letter in Bill's hand intently. "Open it please, please, please,"he said excitedly.

George looked at Fred and the twins started chanting. "Op'n it! Op'n it! Op'n it!"

Ron started to cry and Dad picked him up.

"Yes, open it, Bill. I'm sure we all want to see it," said Mum.

Bill pulled the letter open and a piece of parchment dropped out. He picked it up and read it.

"Oh! Look, Mum! I'm getting a telescope!"

"You are?" Charlie looked over from his chair which he hadn't moved from. "Why can't I get a telescope, Mum?"

"Well, let's see," Mum took the list from Bill. "It's on the school supply list, Charlie. You'll get one when you go to Hogwarts. Not so long now, right?" She leaned over to ruffle his hair and then stood up abruptly, rubbing her stomach.

"Hunh," Charlie grumped, sulking in his chair.

Meanwhile Bill had started reading the letter out loud.

"'Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

"Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

"(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,

Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)'

"He has so many titles!

"'Dear Mr. Weasley,

"We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

"'Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

"'Yours sincerely,

"'Minerva McGonagall'"

"We should start writing the reply letter immediately," said Dad and then looked at his watch. He put Ron back in his seat. "Molly, why don't you write it? I have to go. I'll be late for work. Bye, kids. Congratulations, Bill." He bent down to kiss Ron and rub Bill's head.

"Bye-bye, Daddy," George said.

"I want a kissie, too!" Fred demanded.

Charlie continued to sulk and Percy waved goodbye. Dad went to kiss all the other kids, including Charlie, who rubbed it off, and Mum, who kissed him back. Then he was gone and Mum began clearing off breakfast, telling Bill it was his turn to help her. Charlie continued to sulk while the twins started annoying Ron and Percy went off to find a picture book to read.
