Some people in the world would think they know the difference between right and wrong, the true meaning of justice. Some follow the 'eye for an eye' saying, while others would try not to turn to violence in even the worst circumstances.

But do people really know what is good and what is evil? Many humans think they know how the world should work, but do they really?

A man with the name of Alfred F. Jones thought he had a good grip on what made someone good or bad. Ever since he was small, he lived by the philosophy that the good should be allowed to be free, safe, and the evil should be punished for their horrible deeds. This sort of belief caused him to want to be, and eventually become, a police officer. He would be stopping crime and saving the world as the hero to everyone who needed one.

To him, everything about his life was figured out. He never would have thought that his first run-in with a certain thief would soon change his life forever...

"Officer Jones, reporting for duty!" A man stepped forward, the smile that always seemed to adorn his facing lighting up his bright blue eyes.

"Alfred, you do know that you're ten minutes late, right? How many times do I have to tell you to be here on time?" Alfred's co-worker and friend, Toris, gave a sigh. "I can't always save you from the wrath of Chief Ivan. I'm telling you, he's going to go off on you sooner or later—he already doesn't like you…"

Ever since Alfred started working on the force, he and the chief, Ivan, had never really got along. Ivan would yell when Alfred did something that annoyed him, which was often, though Alfred always found he couldn't care less.

"Oh, come on, Tory! You know he's not gonna do anything. I'm the best officer they have here!" Alfred said with a cheeky grin.

Toris could only shake his head at Alfred's laidback attitude. Even though he really was the best they had, Ivan would soon lose his patience and fire him. Toris just wished he would get that through his thick skull.

"Alfred, you still don't understand Ivan—"

"What about Ivan?" Someone else had approached them—a large man with violet eyes and pale blond hair, a happy (almost evil) smile planted on his face.

"O-oh, Chief Ivan! I was just telling Alfred here about the job you said we would be doing. Th-that's all," Toris said, looking almost as if he was going to pass out from fear. He was even visibly trembling.

"Yeah, dude, we're trying to get to work here. Now, if you'll excuse us, we should really be getting on with that." Alfred was about to turn away and leave, but Ivan's question stopped him.

"Oh, really? Then could you tell me what you're planning to do? Just to make sure you got everything and Toris didn't miss out any details, of course," Ivan said sweetly. His eyes narrowed almost too slightly to notice, though the smile was still there.

Damn, wasn't expecting that…

"W-well, we were going to…" Alfred paused, quickly trying to think of an answer that wouldn't piss off his boss. He looked back to Toris, who was stood behind the Russian now, and for some reason he was holding up his hands oddly. It was almost like he was driving an invisible car…Oh!

"We were going to go patrol the streets, of course! You know, look for some nasty villains who would want to break the law and stuff," Alfred said with an awkward laugh. Ivan's eyes widened only a little unnoticeably. The smile remained, but he now looked almost shocked.

"Ah, it seems you do know what you're doing. How uncharacteristic of you… Well, you should hurry up before something actuallyhappens. Now, if you'll excuse me." With that, the Chief turned his back to Alfred and nodded once to Toris before going towards the other direction.

Alfred stuck his tongue out at his chief. That comment had been so unnecessary. He always knew what he was doing! Well, usually.

"You know, you could be heading off right now instead of sticking your tongue out like a child. I would advise you hurry up before I demote you to doughnut boy," Ivan said, not even bothering to turn around. His voice was as cold as ice.

Alfred's mouth fell open. How the hell did he—?!

"C-come on, Alfred, we really should be going," Toris said, and he began dragging the shocked blond out to the car.

"Can you believe that bastard? How could he even see me with his back turned? I swear, he's a demon or something."

"That or he has eyes in the back of his head…"

"You really think so? He totally could've been abducted by aliens!" Alfred's eyes glittered at the prospect of his boss being some kind of alien test subject. Serves him right…

"I doubt that. You really need to stop watching those movies of yours…" Toris sighed. Alfred always asked such childish things. The two of them had known each other since they were around ten years old. After Alfred saw Toris being picked on by some kids and, of course, intervened, they always hung out together during school. They had close friends since that day.

"I still think there's something freaky about him…" Alfred said, pouting as he looked to the ground.

"There's something freaky about him, that's for sure," Toris said with a smile, though he couldn't help but feel that Ivan would somehow find out about this little conversation. He hoped he was just being paranoid.

By this point the two officers had entered the car and were driving down the road slowly, Toris focusing on the road and Alfred bored out of his mind... that is, until their radio suddenly crackled to life.

"Attention! Anyone near the New York City Bank needs to head down there immediately. A robbery is taking place. Again, robbery at New York City Bank!" the urgent voice said, making Alfred quickly look out of the window to see where they were.

"Toris, we're near the bank! Kick on the lights and let's get this baby going! I'll tell the others we've got it," Alfred told the other. Toris nodded and turned on the sirens as he sped up the vehicle. Alfred quickly picked up the radio. "This is Officer Jones! me and my partner are going to get the bank. You all can rest easy-the hero has this! Over and out."

Alfred and Toris soon arrived at the bank. Through the window, they could see people on the floor with their hands held up in the air. Alfred and Toris nodded to each other and checked their guns before hurriedly leaving the car.

They stood on either side of glass doors of the bank and looked inside. From what they could see, there seemed to be about eleven people. Alfred tried to spot the burglar, but he couldn't see anyone who looked suspicious. He gestured his head towards the doors, signalling that they had to enter and stop the villain. Toris nodded in agreement, and the two of them burst through the doors.

"Alright! Police are here! The one who's trying to jack off the place, come out with your hands up and you won't get hurt. Let's end this on a good note," Alfred yelled, causing the people in the bank to look up fearfully. A few of them let out sighs of relief when they saw it was the police.

A few seconds later, someone came out from the back of the bank, holding a bag that probably had the stolen money inside. The man was smirking; he didn't look intimidated in the least. He almost looked like a thief you would see in a movie. From his shirt, his tight jeans, his knee high boots, and even the cape around his shoulders, he was completely dressed in black. All of this was complemented with a dark mask that concealed the top part of his face, leaving only the eyes visible.

Alfred was practically drooling. Don't get him wrong—the figure-hugging clothes weren't the only thing he liked on the man. What really caught his attention were those bright green eyes behind the mask.

He shook his head, cursing himself inwardly. He lifted his gun up again, having not even noticed he had lowered it in the first place.

"Alright, put your hands up were we can see them now, or we'll shoot!" Alfred said, trying to sound intimidating.

The blond thief's grin only widened.

"Huh...So, these are the people they send to come and arrest me? I have to say, I'm not impressed…" the man said, looking a certain police officer up and down. Alfred blushed slightly.

God, he even has an accent! Alfred shivered at the delightful voice. This time it only took him a second to realize where his thoughts were heading again. He frowned and shook his head more violently to get himself back on track. Toris glanced at him, a little worried.

"I'm serious! Stick you hands up!"

"And what makes you think I would listen to you?" the man asked, tilting his head, his eyes glinting.

"Oh, I don't know, maybe because I'm the one with a gun and you're completely helpless? I think that's a pretty damn good reason." Alfred growled. The thief's cockiness was starting to agitate him.

"Oh, I wouldn't say I'm completely helpless, love. I can leave at any time. I'm just entertaining myself," the man said in an almost mocking tone, causing Alfred's face to grow red and not just from embarrassment.

"Face it. We have you. Now, if you would please come here so we can put the cuffs on you, we can be on our way."

"Handcuffs? I had no idea you were that kinky, though under different circumstances I really wouldn't mind," the thief purred, smirking, another shiver running down Alfred's spine. He quickly tried and failed to shake it off again.

"Alright, sir, please step forward and come quietly. We don't want to have to use force," Toris said, trying to help his friend.

"You know, I think I've wasted too much time here. If we are all done talking, I'll be on my way." With that, the blond sent Alfred a quick wink before pulling out a gravelling-hook and aiming it up. It shot out and broke through the glass ceiling, attaching to something and lifting the man up. Toris tried to shoot at him, but the thief was going too fast and every bullet missed. He was soon out of sight.

Alfred was frozen, shocked. Because of his incompetence, he had just let a criminal escape.
