Morfin does not want his sister looking at that Muggle.

That filthy Muggle she always has her eye on, always so fascinated as she stands by the window watching him pass. What does he have that someone pure doesn't?

He supposes it makes sense.

A filthy Squib and a filthy Muggle. Morfin can imagine why that might appeal to Merope. Someone who cares so little about her magic, he thinks, would want someone who lacks it altogether.

But that doesn't mean, in any sense of the word, that Morfin has to like it.

At first, whenever he catches her staring, Morfin drags Merope away from the window and insists she get back to the housework. But the chores require so little brainpower that Merope is free to allow her thoughts to stray as she pleases. Morfin can tell she thinks he doesn't notice, but he does.

Morfin finds the Muggle - Tom, what a common name - and curses him. His handsome face swells with hives. He decides that even Merope wouldn't love someone who looks like that, and waits for her to see the welts all over his face.

She isn't deterred.

Morfin isn't having it any longer.

He forces Merope against the wall and pushes himself inside of her. When he finishes after what feels like forever to her, he informs her that's exactly what will happen if he catches her looking at that muggle with anything but disgust in her eyes again.

He's not sure what he's expecting, but it's definitely not what he gets.

It's not long before Morfin is arrested for playing with Muggles.

And when he's back, his father is gone.

He discovers Merope is absent as well.

It's years before Morfin learns exactly why, but he always suspects it had something to do with that Muggle.
