A/N: This is just a short, short ficcie that can take place any time after Season 02. Just about self-doubts but being true to yourself, that type of thing. And the fact that all true friends care for you because of who you are.
NO NEED TO FEAR
By Venus163
She stood, her small suitcase hanging limply from her hand. People jostled her as they got off the airplane, a small child somewhere was bawling, but she was so caught up in her own thoughts she didn't notice.
Was this the right thing to do? Her return to Japan would most likely disrupt all her old friends' lives, his life. Maybe they wouldn't want to stop everything just because of her return. Perhaps she wouldn't be welcomed back with open arms, as she had thought when she had still been half a world away. No one had hinted at anything like that, but she suspected that they, some of them especially, wouldn't let her know anything like that.
She now half-wanted to just turn around and hop on a plane back. She was scared of walking through the corridor, to face what, or rather who, was at the end. She didn't want to see her friends disappointed in her, in what she had become…
Time had changed her, and she didn't know herself anymore.
"Miss…"
She looked up blankly before the face of a fellow passenger came into focus. "Yes?"
"Miss, is there a problem? Anything I can do to help?
The sincerity in his voice and eyes caused her to smile. "I'm fine," she assured him, shaking her head. "It's just… I've been away for years, and I'm afraid to face my friends again."
Even to her, she sounded stupid, and she immediately wished she hadn't opened her big mouth.
However, the traveler was smiling. "Miss, I know you have no reason to listen to what I say, but… go and meet them. True friends will always stand with you. You have no need to fear them."
For a moment, she looked at the man and again marveled at his open sincerity. She hadn't met many people who had the virtue in her life.
She nodded at that moment. "You're right, of course. Thank you." She smiled at him, and for a moment, the two sincere souls were recognizing a kindred soul in each other.
Then, she tightened her grip on her suitcase and walked down the corridor. With each step, her determination grew. Whatever time may have done to her, she was still Mimi Tachikawa, and that was what her friends believed. She could feel it.
Unbeknownst to her, the man smiled and stared after her. He remembered her well.
"Good luck, Mimi," he whispered, and with a smile, Michael turned to help an elderly lady walk down the corridor.
