There was once a woman who had forbidden love. She was happy and bright and cheerful.

Her friends would all say, "Why don't you have a guy in your life? You can't be single forever."

Then she would reply, "But I do have one."

And she did. He lived in her dreams, in a time of swords and samurai. Every night she would visit him. Him and his long brown hair, and whit grey eyes. He was a young samurai of noble statue, with much sorrow. His entire life was based on revenge. Someday, he said, he would challenge the head of his clan, his uncle and daimyo, for murder of his father. The entire clan looked down on him. For he was part of the branch section, dedicated to serving the main section.

When she visited him, she became the merchant's daughter. One of the few middle class. Every night they would meet under the cherry blossom trees. They'd sit and watch the stars, and talk, and kiss...

Neither of the families approved. His said she was not of his class, not worthy of even him. Her's said he was just playing with her, surely he had not intention of marriage. But they didn't cared.

Then one day he died; right in her arms. It was in a battle against neighboring daimyo. She had followed him to watch and make sure he was safe. He was cut down so quickly. The battle had lasted too long. No one was there to stop her, so she ran to him. Cradling him in her arms, she sobbed. There was so much blood, so, so much. Stroking his hair, she grieved.

"D..don't cry," He whispered, his voice seemed forced and pained, "I..I love you."

Then he died, and she woke up. There were no more dreams after that. It became hard to sleep, knowing she couldn't visit him. It was only a dream, so why did it feel so real. The loss, the pain, the longing. It was like every night she stepped into another world. Now the portal had closed, leaving her behind.

She began to wear her hair how he liked it. Two buns, making her resemble a panda. Every time she put them up, she swore she could feel him untie them.

People just didn't understand. So every morning she put on a mask, then return home and cry her heart out.

One day she sat in the park. It was dangerous to do nothing and let her mind wander like this. All thoughts returned to him, in the end. Then she saw a young man. He sat benches away. There was a dazed, emotionless expression to him.

Just like...

And his hair was long and brown.

Just like...

And his eyes...they were white gray!

Just like...

But she wouldn't let her hopes rise, for fear they would fall. Finally she could stand it no longer. She walked toward him and sat down. He jerked and stared at her, she staring back. She saw tears form at the back of his eyes and felt her own form and rain down her cheek.

"My panda?" He asked.

And at that moment, she knew she had found her samurai.

The samurai was named Neji, and the young woman, Tenten. You see her dreams were memories from a past life. I like to believe that when two souls destined to be together, face a tragedy, they are given a chance to be happy in the next life.
