December 10th 2008
Dear Diary,
Today is the 10th of December. Only 3 days left until-
That was all I was able to read before, "Near! Why in the hell would you be reading over my shoulder?!?" Mello yelled to me. I whinced at the sudden, loud noise. I sat back down on the floor of the playroom. "You know, if you don't want people reading that, write in your room." I earned a death glare for that comment. "By the way, what is on the 13th?" "None of your buisness, Near." He hissed. Mello's voice was everything but mellow. He then stormed out. "It's his birthday. His 15th to be exact." Linda said from across the room. I remembered mine, earlier that year. Mello had not known it. But, Matt and Linda had given me a Transformers robot and a hand-made puzzle. Though, they did not last long. Mello had broken the robot and "accidentally" burned the puzzle. Linda was in the process of making a new one. I got up and walked to my room. In the hallway, I saw Linda. She had left after speaking Mellos birthdate. "Are you getting something for Mello's birthday?" I asked. "I don't know. Why, are you?" "Maybe." I left her for my room. I, truthfully, desired to do something for Mello's birthday. But... what? I thought. And thought. And thought. Nothing. I decided to sleep on the question. It was now 10:30p.m. I covered myself with a blanket, firmly set my feet on the ground, and fell asleep.
The next morning, I still had not answer to the question at hand. Matt passed by my open door. "Matt." He stopped and looked in my direction. "Yeah?" "What are you getting Mello?" "Oh, um... some German chocolate. His favorite. Not that Hersheys crap." "Oh, I see... Thank you." He stared at me for a few seconds more, then left. "Chocolate, that was logical." I whispered to myself. 'Maybe something a little more personal, though.' I dressed and left for breakfast. Back in my room, I looked through a scrapbook that Linda had made. On the last page, a picture of Mello fell out. It was one taken when he first entered Wammys. He was smilling. A tree of yellow flowers behind him. The colors completmented his golden hair and crystal blue eyes. It was beautiful. That was it! I would give him this. The photo. I found a pen and wrote, "Dear Mello,". That was all I could think of at the moment. 'What else?' Linda walked in. I quickly hid the photograph. "What was that?" "Nothing." "Is it for Mello?" I sighed. "Yes." "Oh, let me see!" She held out her hands. I gave her the photo. Linda blushed. "Ohh, Mello looks sooo cute here!!" She handed it back. "Well, I am going to see what we are having for lunch." She left.

"Happ Birthday, Mello!!!" Matt exclaimed, loudly, in the playroom. All the children froze. Then one by one, snuck from the room. Matt handed Mello a bag. Linda, quickly, handed him a box. Mello started rummaging in the bag. He pulled out a bar of chocolate. "Thanks Matt." He then looked at the contents of the box. There was a map, pictures, hand-made pictures, and a little money. "I know you are Russian so, I thought you would like to visit Russia someday. I hope you like it." "Thank you." Mello, clearly, looked excited. Linda looked over at me and then, nudged Matt. The two left and shut the door. Mello glared daggers at me. I stared back. "Well? What? Are you giving me something?" I nodded. I stood up and walked over to Mello and handed him the photo. "Read this." He looked at the picture on the front. Then, he turned it over. "Dear Mello." He read. I then took my chance and quickly pecked his lips. He looked stunned. But, soon, the stun melted down into a bright blush. "T-Th-Thanks." Mello said, quickly, before leaving. I sat back down and began playing with my puzzles. Linda walked back in. "So, did Mello like his present?" "Yes. He liked it alot." I started blushing. Hopefully he liked it. I wish so.
