NOTE: This was inspired by something said by Sokka in the movie, and Sokka acts more like movie Sokka, not cartoon Sokka, thus my putting it in the movieverse section. Also, it's a drabble - it's meant to be short.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything.
Sokka loved many people. He wasn't sure that he realized it daily, but he did love many people.
He had loved his mother. He had loved his mother so much while she was still alive, but then the Fire Nation came and took her from him.
He loved his father. But he left, to serve in the war, unsure of if he would return well, or even if he would return at all.
He had loved the Northern Water Tribe Princess, Yue, pretty dang well, too, but she had to go and give her spirit to the moon, didn't she?
He loved Katara. He loved Katara a lot. So much that he was willing to do anything it took to keep her safe, even if it meant killing every member of the Fire Nation just make sure she was alive and well. But he had to live with knowing that she could be taken from him at any second, with the dangerous life they now lived.
He also had to know, every day, in the back of his mind, that he would kill someone for her.
Sokka was not a violent boy. He grew up in the small, rural Southern Water Tribe. There was never much violence in that tribe, with the exception of hunting for food.
But killing? He would never dream of it. Or, he wouldn't if he didn't know that someday, he may have to do just that to keep his little sister safe.
To think of killing is like a loss of innocence...
In some way or other, loving had taken something from Sokka. But maybe, someday, Sokka could learn to love Aang, like a brother.
But, when the day came, could he really handle the cost?
