Dealing
Summary: Serena and Dan have been together for five years and have a little girl Holly who is four!.. When Dan is called to the army Serena realises being an Army wife is more difficult than it first seemed.

Dan had been gone for a month now and Serena hated life as an army wife. 'Mommy When's Daddy coming home!' holly had Dan's dark coloured curly hair and Serena's green eyes. She sat playfully on Serena's lap. 'I don't know sweetie.' Holly left out a yelp of surprise. The clouds gently left out snow slowly and steadily. 'Momma look snow!' Serena felt her self control slip away slowly. Holly looked at her mom. And climbed up to her lap. 'Dada will come back he promised.' she whispered tears of her own began to fall as she wiped away her mom's. 'Thanks baby!' 'Your welcome momma!' Holly got up and stared out the window as her auntie Jenny and her son Declan Bass walked into the house. Declan's dad Chuck was also away in the army. Declan produced a snowball and hurled it towards Holly who ducked and it hit Serena. In response hurled one which she had gathered from the window sill. This one hit Jenny. The snowball war commenced. 'Dan would love this' thought Serena as she ducked another snowball from her daughter.
Dan Humphrey and Chuck Bass stood outside of the shack trying to block out the fight inside. Snow began to fall lightly Dan smiled as the memory of this time last year flooded his mind
Memory: 'Dada, Momma wake up' Holly Humphrey shook her parents until they were awake. Serena opened her eyes. 'What's up sweetie.' 'There's mushy white stuff falling from the sky Momma I'm scared!.' The three year old slid in between Dan and Serena. Dan laughed and took some of the WHITE MUSHY STUFF off the window sill. 'There's nothing to be scared of darling , it's snow, you make balls and throw them at people.' He threw the tiny piece of snow at Serena. Holly laughed. And jumped up on Dan. 'Dada You know snow do you like it.' 'Yep I love it!' 'Me Too Dada.' She threw her arms around him. He cuddled her close.
Dan smiled to himself. He missed those green eyes staring up at him. Plus the scene when he used to come home from work everyday. Holly sleeping on Serena's chest. He sighed lightly 'Humphrey, Bass ye're up next!'
Serena tucked in Holly into her bed. She had been going on and on about seeing Santa tomorrow. Serena wished that Dan was there though she wished it everyday. She sat at the window. Staring out at the Manhattan sky. Then a letter came in.

Serena felt a tear fall she knew what was coming through the door she'd been dreading it for months.
Mrs Humphrey,
We are sorry to tell you but your Husband Daniel Humphrey has been killed in battle along with Nathaniel Archibald. Charles Bass is critically ill in hospital.

Serena left the letter on the table and walked into her room. On the bed Cedric sat there as normal. She cried into cabbage patch. And slowly fell asleep.

Dan ran through the bombed archway. Nate following close behind. Blasts occurred in every angle. Dan fell. He could hear Holly calling him. 'DaDa!' her voice rang through his head. Dan's eyes closed. 'Dan!' Serena's voice called to him. Nate and Chuck were screaming in pain. As Dan slipped into a coma and gently slipped away to the other side.
