AN: Just a little drabble I thought about while I was trying to think of ideas for Ghost in His Shell. I'm not sure what I was thinking about while I was writing this... Anyway, reviews are always wanted!
Warning: Lots of random pairings I don't necessarily support... O.o
Gaara thinks he doesn't know much about love.
That's understandable. It's not like he had a normal, happy family. His own uncle tried to kill him when he was just a small boy. His village shunned him.
You'd be bitter too. He's never known love.
But he can watch other people. He knows things about them. And about their love.
He sees Naruto and Sasuke and sees their brotherly love. He wonders why he and Kankuro don't act like they do, constantly arguing and bickering but still with that love flickering between them, like sparks, just below the surface even if neither would admit it was there. If asked, either would probably die for the other. Gaara's not so sure Kankuro would do that for him.
He sees Ino and Sakura and sees their sisterly love. He knows they do each other's hair and talk about boys. Especially Sasuke. He sees them bicker, like Naruto and Sasuke, but in different ways. And then he sees them with Naruto and Shikamaru and see how they treat their 'brothers', as if they can't stand them one minute and how they admire and respect them the next. Gaara wonders why he and Temari aren't like that. They don't even talk that much, really.
He sees Gai and Lee, noticing their relationship and nearly turning green with envy. Gai looks out for Lee and protects him like his own son. Lee looks up to and respects Gai, willing to do basically anything for the man who is both his teacher and his father. Gaara wishes he had someone like that.
Then he sees Lee's love for Sakura and his blatant shows of affections for the girl. He would throw himself in front of a kamikaze attack to protect her, even if Sakura never shows affections for him. She's too distracted by Sasuke.
He sees Hinata's love of Naruto and the quiet way she follows him around. She stares at him while his back is turned, but never meets his eyes. He sees Kiba with Hinata, and knows he loves her too but doesn't know it yet. One day, it'll come out and everything will change for them.
He sees Ino chasing Sasuke and Sasuke baiting her, because he does love her back. Naruto chases Sakura, who always runs to Sasuke, who always runs away.
He sees the way Shikamaru stares at Temari and the way she stares back. They've been doing that since they fought Tayuya. Kankuro glares at Shikamaru, for some reason deciding to be an over-protective brother.
The way Neji looks at Tenten sometimes after a training session and the way Tenten looks at both him and Lee, not sure where her affections lie.
How Iruka looks at Anko and how she looks away, like there's something she wants to forget. He keeps looking.
How Asuma looks at Kurenai and Kurenai looks at Kakashi, who stares at Rin's name on the marker everyday for the rest of time.
Gaara stares at them all, chasing each other in one huge circle. They would work it out someday.
Gaara knows more about love then he thinks.
