He couldn't breathe.
Tried to suck in air, but none seemed to fill his lungs.
He couldn't see.
Only the greyish outlines of random machinery with the flashes of light from the distance.
He couldn't stand.
Crawled on his hands and knees to what he assumed was the stairs he needed to go up on.
He couldn't hear.
Everything was screaming around him, but nothing got through.
And what do you think you're doing?
Nothing but that voice in his head.
You know you can't do that. Nothing will come of it at all.
That annoying voice, which had slipped into his head right after the blast.
Ha ha! You think you're so smart!
Why did he do that? Was he an idiot?
It's funny, 'cause you're wrong!
Maybe so. . . maybe
You're wrong! Ha!
No! He couldn't start thinking like that! He had to get rid of this voice! Of this creature!
Every second you waste on trying to get rid of me, every second I take more and more control of you!
He needed to get up to the landing!
Even closer now!
Almost there!

He lifted himself to the landing, holding onto the railing as tightly as he could muster.
If you think going through some light will get rid of me, you're wrong!
All he had to do was open the gate fully, and then slip in.
You'll fail! You already have!
He grabbed the remote from his pocket. A pain shocked through his hand.
You're already dead! Dead!
Just one push . . . one click.
Stop!
"Brother!"
That voice. He knew who it was. But. He just couldn't. . .
If you don't stop now, he'll get caught in the crossfire!
"What are you doing?! Are you insane?!"
Guess he was.
He pushed the button, opening the portal entirely.
"Brother!"
What are you doing!
He couldn't – or just didn't – respond to either voice.
Just slipped away into the portal.
The void.
The numbness.
