Blame It On The Rain
They've been outside for merely an hour, tending his geese, when the sky turned grey, and moments later, in started to rain.
The sound of thunder and the smell of petrichor didn't seem to bother her at all. Instead, she looked up at the sky, closed her eyes, and spread her arms like they were wings, letting the tiny droplets of rain fall on her face. He watched her silently and realized that this was one of the rare moments that she would let her guard down, allowing herself to be more of the wonderful person she already is.
It didn't take them long to get completely soaked. From the looks of the sky earlier, he expected a downpour and he got a downpour. "Effie, we better go back inside." He told her as the winds blew a little bit stronger. She shook her head, wrapping her arms around her torso. "I think I'm going to stay her a little bit longer."
He didn't leave her, though. And soon enough, she had managed to challenge him to a game of tag under the pouring rain. At first, he rolled his eyes at the idea because he thought it was childish for two grown adults like them to do that and seem unhappy to oblige, but the smile on his face says otherwise.
As the last raindrop fell, they were both panting because of all the running around they did. The sun was already setting and the sky was already in the shade of dark blue. Both of them weather-stained, sitting next to each other on the lawn chairs that he kept in his backyard. He glances at her, taking in her appearance as her blue eyes were focused on the first few stars on the sky, with her blonde hair sticking out in different directions and her wet yellow sundress clinging to every beautiful curve of her body.
He turns away seconds later and gazed at the few stars in the sky as well.
For a moment, he thinks that he might be in love with her…
…but then, he could just blame it on the rain.
A/N – this was a little bit drabble-ish and I'm not quite used to writing drabbles, but the rain brings out the fluffy side in almost everyone.
