Dance like You Know You Can

She wasn't quite sure what had prompted her to do it.

Perhaps it was the upbeat music, or the fact that he looked so lonely dancing by himself in the corner. Maybe it was her realization that less than an hour ago he had just rescued her and all of their friends from profound danger.

Whatever it was, she didn't know—but what she did know was that she practically flew to his side out of nowhere, took his hand, feeling its warmth sink through her and throughout her whole body, and then she began to dance.

"Dance like you know you can," sang Zoe in the background of it all. "You can, yeah you know you can, dance like you know you can, you can yeah you know you can."

He seemed a little surprised at first, and she supposed that she had seemingly flown out of nowhere, but he seemed to adjust quickly to the shock and the rhythm. She grinned at him, rose colored eyes hitting amber and glinting.

Was she just giddy because she hadn't been trapped in the Largest Ever Pet Shop forever? Was she just overexcited and overreacting due to her newfound freedom? After all, she had been in the cages longer than anyone else—even a few seconds longer than Vinnie, although they were caught together.

No, she realized soundly. It was definitely something much more than giddiness. Now if only she could place a finger on it…

"Don't forget to dance, it's the only plan it's the only plan—don't forget to dance, it's the only plan it's the only plan," was sung in the background by Zoe. But she could hardly hear it. She was wrapped in one world—one where it was only him and her and a rhythmic beat. She had never felt like this before.

She thought she liked it.

Were the others staring at her, paused mid-dance step as they realized what she was doing and who she was dancing with? Gosh darn it, they were. Well, she wasn't going to let them steal her fun. She danced and twirled and laughed, and her partner seemed surprised by her new sudden energy. He picked up his tempo too, and they continued forward.

What was so wrong with just a little dance? Sure, she was often the funny one, the one that everyone laughed at, and he was just the one who was scared of his own shadow, but that didn't mean that they couldn't dance, could they? She could feel the eyes of her friends boring into the back of her head; she wouldn't be surprised if even Blythe was staring at her.

But right then, she didn't care.

It was her, Pepper Clark, her partner, Sunil Nevla, and the world. That was it. That was all she needed for now. Maybe later she would change her mind, but right now, in the exhilaration of it all, it was everything to her.

"Dance like you know you can, you can yeah you know you can. Dance like you know you can, you can yeah you know you can. Don't forget to dance, it's the only plan it's the only plan. Don't forget to dance it's the only plan it's the only plan. Dance like you know you can…" Zoe trilled in the background, but Pepper only heard a few words of it as she and Sunil danced their hearts out.

"Dance like you know you can…"

AN: Well, this was a little bit of an experiment. I just got into this show a week ago, and by the way, this takes place at the end of Gailbreak, Episode Four. I'm a new supporter of what I like to call "Peppunil" (PepperXSunil) and I thought that this would be my little test of how to write it. I've also seen people on the internet who like this pairing and have no fanfiction to read about it, and I'm going to get into longer fanfics later, but this, again, is my experiment.

Anonymous reviews are always welcome, if you don't have an account but like the pairing—and of course any review shall be highly welcomed—but NOT if you are to bash the ship.

Thanks!
