One day, the being known as Yukari Yakumo opened a gap that led to the world known as Yuggoth. As she stepped through into the land of bare stone, flickering sky, and dark pillars, she noticed several beings far off in the distance. She gap-hopped forward, crossing the distance in an instant. She asked one of the tall beings a question.
"Who are you?"
The being made a strange, unintelligible noise. Yukari repeated the question, adding the condition: "Speak English or Japanese, or don't speak at all; I never bothered to study language."
The dark, spindly being stared at Yukari with its glowing purple eyes.
"We are the Endermen. We are thus named because we dwell in the End Dimension."
"I thought this place was called Yuggoth."
"That is the term that ignorant humans use. We were here first. We call it the End. That is all."
Suddenly, the Enderman vanished, leaving behind violet energy. It reappeared behind Yukari. "Ah, so you 'Endermen' can use gaps too?"
"Gaps? We know of no gaps. We simply look for the Seams in reality."
"Ah, you mean Boundaries. I can manipulate those, too. My 'gaps' are simply stretched Boundaries."
That was mostly a lie, but she didn't want to confuse the Enderman too much. Her gaps were actually one-dimensional holes; they were visible from one side only. From the other side, there would be no gap at all. The holes cut into Yukari's private dimension, a terrifying place filled with unblinking red eyes set permanently into a purple background.
This 'private dimension' was actually Yukari herself in her true form. The blonde female was just an avatar of the most powerful youkai.
"Boundaries? No. Seams. They are, always have been, and always will be Seams."
"Oh. Well, they must be at least similar. I, as a matter of fact, can manipulate not only concrete Boundaries but also abstract ones. For instance, I can warp the Boundary of space and time, or past and future, or even life and death or yin and yang. Don't think about it too much."
"Everything has Seams, which we Endermen can pull apart and travel between."
"Cool story, bro. I'm seriously thirsty."
Yukari then gapped herself a glass of water, and, in the process of drinking, spilled a bit on the Enderman. He recoiled in pain.
"What?"
"We are hurt by water, as it is fluid and therefore has no Seams. A thing without Seams is, to us, an abomination."
"Oh. I'm very sorry."
Yukari then reopened her 'gap' and entered her 'private dimension'. She neglected to close the gap, as she wanted to show Gensokyo to the Enderman whom she had befriended. He followed her and, afer finishing his brief tour of Gensokyo, decided to stay.
