Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
Disclaimer: i own nothing. the poem is by Wilfred Owen and is called "DULCE ET DECORUM EST"
for the unsung heros that live everywhere. and because i think each side of the battle should be told fairly.
takes place sometime inbetween episodes
It was a fairly quiet day at the southern britain OZ base the gundam activity was barely there and they were thought to be lying low after one of the main bases had just been wiped out. The personal who were stationed on surveylance were therefore, very shocked at the sudden appearance of a gundam at the edge of their radar.
John (for the sake of names lets call him John Smith) instantly signalled the commanding officer and asked what course of action should be taken the answer came back crystal clear, that they should go straight in and do as much damage as possible.
The mobile suits were readied and the pilots were sent to the cockpits where their briefing came over their headsets
"do as much damage to the enemy as possible" alongside it was the motto "deluce et decorum est pro patria mori." which each soldier dutifully repeated before being sent to a certain death.
John Smith led his troops into battle momentarily forgetting he had a wife an family to live for all that matterd now was that motto he screamed it as he lunged at the black gundam
"DELUCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI!"
There was a minor explosion and then just another defeated mobile suit crumpled in a burnt out heap on the ground forgotten in the midst of the small one sided battle. it was soon joined by the rest of its squadron as the base fell to the impossibly strong attack.
A day later in their small home the children of John Smith watched a stranger walk up their path with slow measured steps and ring their doorbell, they were glanced at then forgotten as their mother opened the door and was given an envelope. the stranger walked back down the path and disapeared from their lives as he walked around the corner. Mrs Smith opened the small telegram
mrs smith. we regret to inform you.
that your husband john smith. died
heroically in battle whilst protecting
king and country. from a gundam
attack.
"dulce et decorum est pro patria mori"
yours sincerly
Commander Jeffery Rodgers
"its a lie" she whispered it staring at her children who had resumed playing oblivious to their fathers death her neighbour had recognised the telegram carrier and was walking hurriedly towards her "ITS A LIE" she screamed it louder and collapsed against the door frame sobbing not seeing her childrens confused and scared gazes resting upon her.
"My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori"
translation:
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori:
it is sweet and seemly to die for ones country
