This was a fanfiction drabble challenge between Terias McKlay and myself. We were supposed to pick a fandom, pick a pivotal point in the chosen fandom, and change the outcome. I chose the plot point in the first book of Twilight, or Midnight Sun, since this is in Edward's POV.
I'm still waiting for Terias to post hers.
Obligatory disclaimer: I do not own Twilight or anything associated with it. I am writing a fanfiction out of enjoyment for the enjoyment of others. Enjoy. :3
"No!" Alice gasped.
Scanning her thoughts quickly, a vision of Tyler Crawley's van skidding towards a girl standing in front of her truck played out. The girl was Bella. A second later the vision became reality as Tyler's van came into view. I didn't need to finish watching Alice's vision to know that the impact of the van would be fatal for Bella. Humans were so fragile and this girl particularly so.
As predicted, Tyler's van started to skid and Alice's words from earlier that day rang in my mind, "Your life seems to be at a crossroads."
I had called Alice out on the cheese then, but the gravity of the situation hit me now. I knew I could save Bella, the girl that simultaneously puzzled me and brought out my most feral instincts. In that same moment I also knew that in saving her I would risk my family and everything we had been keeping safe and secret for decades.
Which would I regret more? Exposure of my family to satisfy my blood lust and curiosity or continued safe guarding of a lifestyle that had preserved us for so long?
I looked to Bella across the parking lot and her eyes locked onto mine. I could see the horror in her expression as she realized her impending death. I wanted to save her, but not for the right reasons.
When the smashing of glass was heard along with the crunching of metal and flesh my body jerked ever so slightly in the direction of the accident. For a split second my instincts nearly got the better of me. Granted, no human would have been able to see, but the movement made Jasper tilt his head ever so slightly in my direction.
Confused thoughts flew across the minds of my siblings before the horror stricken and panicked thoughts crashed around from the humans. Like Jasper, they only tilted their heads enough for their eyes to catch me in their periphery.
It's better to let someone die for the right reasons that save them for the wrong reasons, I thought before carefully taking a step away from my car.
"Where are you going Edward?" Rosalie demanded.
"We should call an ambulance." I replied with my eyes fixed on the scene of the accident.
