It was nearing the end of the day and Dio had been reading aloud to Giorno who was sitting in his lap. They were practicing some English words when Dio decided to act a little silly.
"GioGio, you're my little GioGio," Dio cooed with a playful smile knowing it would frustrate his young son. It always did whenever Dio called him anything other than his name.
"No, Padre, no! I'm Giorno!"
"Non, mon petit garçon," he replied.
"No, no!" Giorno now was erupting into giggles at his father beginning to tickle him.
"My little boy, mio dolce, Padre vi ama." At the softly said declarations Dio lifted his son up to where Giorno could hug him around the neck. Still giggling the boy replied,
"Vi ama!" He was still learning the new language but the gesture managed to make Dio chuckle in response. He set the book aside lifting Giorno easily in his arms and beginning to walk to his son's room.
"I think it's about time you go to sleep," he commented his son showing no sign of protest.
Later that night as Dio was sitting vigil at Giorno's bedside thunder tore through the night's previous silence. Dio was jolted from his pleasant thoughts immediately concerned for his son's reaction. As more thunder rolled above them Giorno awoke appearing startled.
"Padre?"
"I am here," Dio reassured pulling his son into his arms. From a window they watched lightning flash and listened to the sound of rain beginning to fall. Giorno's shock changed to a more delighted awe with a smile growing on his face. Dio turned around in the chair so that they could watch the thunderstorm better.
"Pioggia!" Whispered Giorno as if the word were sacred. Watching his son Dio's previous worries settled. Giorno truly was a remarkable child. The boy tore his eyes from the window and looked excited at his father.
"Let's go!"
"Go where?"
"Outside!"
"That's..." Dio's sentence trailed off. It was a dangerous idea and Giorno could get sick due to the rain, but his son's enthusiasm was contagious. Dio also realized this might be a rare opportunity to be outside with his child.
Turning his frown to a grin he agreed to let them stay outside for a few minutes. They could hardly manage even that with the gusts that began to blow but it was a memory Dio engraved into his-
Dio felt his consciousness crawl out of the comfort of sleep. Lying still he mentally brushed the cobwebs of slumber out of his mind sitting up in his bed once he was more properly awake. Thinking back he heaved a sigh rubbing his eyes.
"That dream again. Am I getting worse with time?"
