"Thought Process"
"Officer Parkman? Are you awake?"
Matt Parkman's eyes fluttered open, and for a moment couldn't remember where he was or why he was in so much pain. The feeling quickly passed as he remembered the previous night's events.
"Officer Parkman?"
Matt turned to face his visitor and any misery he had about his current condition went out the window. "Molly! What are you doing here?"
Molly Walker crossed the hospital room and grabbed Matt's hand. "They said you could have visitors now. I wanted to make sure you were okay."
Matt sat up to hug Molly but quickly cringed in pain. "Right. Bullets. Okay might be overshooting it, but I'm definitely alive."
"That's good."
Now in a more pleasant state of mind, Matt looked about his rather bland hotel room. It had the usual trappings: flowers, radio, television. Upon noticing the globe sitting on the bedside table, a thought suddenly occurred to him. "Molly?"
"Yes, Officer Parkman?"
"You can find anyone, right?"
"Anybody in the whole world."
"Could you… could you find someone for me if I gave you their name?"
The little girl nodded, "I think so. Who is it?"
"His name is Ted Sprague."
"Okay." Molly walked over to the globe and concentrated. Her finger hovered above the globe, but after a moment she put it back down. "I can't find him."
"Oh," Matt said, disappointment evident in his tone, "that's okay. It's not important. How are you doing?"
Molly hopped up on the hospital bed to side next to Matt. "I'm okay. Still a little scared. Dr. Suresh wants me to help him find the Boogeyman, but I… I don't want to."
"The Boogeyman?" Matt asked in shock. "You mean Sylar's still out there?"
Molly nodded. "And Dr. Suresh is afraid that he's going to blow up."
A confused look crept across Matt's face. "Blow up?"
"Uh-huh. Dr. Suresh said that after what happened there was a chance that the Boogeyman could explode. I don't want that to happen."
"But Sylar can't explode. Not unless he…" Realization slowly dawned upon him. "Oh."
To Molly Walker, there was no visible change in Matt Parkman's demeanor. He didn't look sad. He didn't look hurt. He didn't look empty. No tears rolled down his cheek, and he didn't cry out in rage.
If she could read his mind she would've been overwhelmed by all the thoughts he was having. She'd have felt grief wash over her, anger screaming out, and a deep, dark longing shaking her hero's very core.
But Molly Walker couldn't read Matt Parkman's mind. She didn't know what he was feeling or thinking. She didn't know that his heart was breaking. No one knew. And no one ever would.
