Chapter 1: Enrolling Into Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns

Squirtament's POV

Okay, that magic exam was too easy.

I mean a school with a low acceptance rate like this should have a magic exam that is borderline impossible, but the examiners just gave me simple tasks like moisturizing spells on cacti, basic levitation and transfiguring fruits into other fruits or small objects. I can already transfigure living creatures for Celestia sake! In fact all the other exams were easy, well… except for two.

Then there was the writing exam. They gave me nothing but depressing topics, but I can make any piece of writing funny. That is what I specialize in. I even got a cutie mark in that. A book with quill writing "ha ha ha"s to represent the hilarity that I write. The other foals seemed to be struggling though. They gave us a comprehension from a Shakespony book in Old Royal Canterlotian Ponish. What do I look like? A foal!? Okay, I am a foal but I think that I'm on another level compared to other foals. My parents forced me to study and improve my magic, all for what? An exam that was so easy I could do it blindfolded and with my hoofs tied. Okay I don't write or do magic with my hooves but that's beside the point.

The science exam was too too easy. I mean the Periodic Table Of Elements? I had memorized that before I was even able to walk! And that is not an exaggeration, I had to learn my alphabet at the same time as Shakespony's literature and the Periodic Table of Elements so to have them ask me foal stuff was unforgivable!

And then what was hardest was PE and Art. Why do they call it Physical Education? There is no education, just torture! They made us run 3 laps. THREE! We're just foals! I have the mental capacity of a stallion but the body of a foal. I've read all the fitness books in the Canterlot Library yet I still couldn't reach top 10! I consider myself to be pretty fast when I'm trying but 12th place was all I got! 12th place out of 150. Some ponies were struggling pretty hard though. Like this other blue pony with a lighter blue mane. I heard her being called Trixie I believe. She was struggling on the first lap somehow and seemed to be encouraging herself by talking to herself and referring to herself as 'The Great and Powerful Trixie' for some reason. And an orange colt with a white patch on his nose was in dead last and he was hyperventilating, and he almost fainted. His name was Sunburst I think. It was pretty funny. Okay, it was really funny.

Then there was art. We were told to draw a fruit basket. I can only draw basic shapes. So naturally I drew polygons instead of round fruit. I saw worse though. And I saw much better too. This colt who was in front of me stared at his canvas for almost 30 minutes of the exam. Then he finally drew a circle. Then he rubbed it out in the next minute! I thought he wasn't gonna finish when in the last 5 minutes he just started drawing insanely fast and then he drew an identical copy of the fruit basket in colour and everything!

Back To Real Time

Teacher : Feather? Squirtament Feather, please come and get your results.

Guess it's time to get my results.

Teacher : Good morning Mrs. Feather and Squirtament Feather, my name is Mrs Inkwell. I am the English teacher and the one in charge of giving out results.

Mrs. Feather : Good morning ma'am. Did my little Squirts make it in?

That is my nickname Squirts. I prefer it over Squirtament. Saying my full name makes it sound like I'm in trouble. Though for some reason I had a feeling it was going to be used a lot.

Inkwell : Yes he did. And more than that he was second overall in his grade. He was excellent in every category.

Of course I came second… WAIT. WHAT!? SECOND!? ONLY SECOND!? WHO COULD HAVE BEATEN ME!? Okay I have to calm down.

Squirtament : Excuse me Mrs Inkwell but I would like to inquire. Who came first?

Inkwell : A filly named Twilight came first.

A filly… A filly beat me… A filly came first… It was a filly…

Inkwell : Anyway your Magic, Ponish and Science were top notch. Your PE was above average but it was your art that let you down.

Of course it was art…

Inkwell : Anyway, you're gonna be a great addition to the school playground is outside as well as the other ponies who you're going to be learning with. Twilight's already outside if you wanna meet her too. It would be nice to see another foal of your level of intelligence I would presume.

Squirtament : Thank you ma'am

Now time to go and see who this Twilight filly is.

3rd Person POV

Inkwell : Mrs. Feather I would like to have a word with you before you leave.

Mrs. Feather : Of course

Inkwell : Your child displays great potential as a student, but he seems to easily get annoyed and and he seems to think that he should be the best at everything. He needs to learn that it is okay to fail, then to learn from those your failures.

Mrs. Feather : All that from an entrance examination?

Inkwell : Our exams don't just test your child's abilities physically and mentally but they also bring out their reaction to different things and personality traits emotionally. For example, your son's hastiness made him do spells before the magic examiners completed their instructions. Luckily for him they were basic spells so he didn't need much instruction and he is quite talented but he needs to learn to slow down. This will make him a quick and smart caster, but a reckless and careless one too. Due to this we let him skip the Hatching spell as hasty casters usually struggle with spells that need precision such as this one.

Mrs. Feather : Oh dear…

Inkwell : He also seems to Mood Cast

Mrs. Feather : Mr. Feather and I know he does. He's been doing it since he was born.

Inkwell : So you understand the basic principles of this?

Mrs. Feather nodded.

Mrs. Feather : It is when you cast spells due to uncontrollable emotion.

Inkwell : Precisely, but your son seems to have a different version of this condition called Advanced Mood Casting which is very rare and dangerous. Instead of casting basic spells of his level, he casts high level spells such as an Acceleration Spell when he is happy or a Teleportation Spell in stressful situations to get himself away from the area. The stress cast spell of Teleportation will eventually stop upon mastering of the Teleportation Spell but more difficult and dangerous spells like spells of Deterioration and Duplication might be too difficult for him to learn at this age so he has to learn to keep a level head. If he doesn't then the weight of the spell he will cast will be to much for him to handle and he will faint and in doing so he will require a long period rest depending on what he cast.

Mrs. Feather seemed stressed about this revelation.

Mrs. Feather: Will my little bundle of intelligence be okay?

Mrs. Inkwell just smiled at her.

Inkwell : We are a high level institution for a reason ma'am. We'll take good care of your son.

Mrs. Feather sighed then smiled at Mrs. Inkwell and said her farewells to the teacher after asking when she has to come back and pick up her son.

Mrs. Inkwell then sighed after Squirtament's mother had left and turned to the backdoor.

Inkwell : Just what was your reasoning for specifically telling me to save young Feather for last Celestia?

Princess Celestia then came in through said backdoor revealing her regal presence.

Celestia : You know it yourself Inkwell that that colt will be nothing but trouble.

Inkwell : What makes you say that?

Celestia : Mood casters are already dangerous and with a colt with pride like that he can be highly unstable.

Inkwell : Why not harness that potential instead?

Celestia : It's too dangerous.

Inkwell : I say that's a lost opportunity.

Celestia : Inkwell… you were always too reckless as a teacher. Please, don't do anything that will get you in trouble.

Inkwell : What will get me in trouble? Mentoring a colt? If I wasn't mistaken you took in a pupil today as your apprentice.

Celestia : She was different.

Inkwell : Different how? They both have highly unstable magic and are too smart for their age.

Celestia then ponders this and smiles slightly.

Celestia : Well… when you put it that way they do seem pretty similar.

Inkwell smiled back at her friend.

Inkwell : We just have to make sure he gets good friends.

Celestia sighed.

Celestia : I hope good company is what he needs.

(A/N): Please review and tell me how I can improve as this is my first time publishing whatever I wrote to the internet.
