This one shot has been written as part of a challenge set by the lovely people over at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry (Challenges & Assignments). The task was to write about death, from Death's POV.
This version of Death has been partially inspired by Charmed.

Death would have been a much kinder fate
The names Alice Longbottom and Frank Longbottom appeared at the top of his list; it wasn't the first time they had been on his list, in fact over the four years they had been Aurors they had been on their more times than he could recall, but time was different, this was the first time they had ever been right at the top.
He had heard through the grapevine that this infamous duo had been kidnapped by those treacherous Death Eaters in their quest to find him. Whilst the rest of the wizarding world believed that he was dead, the Death Eaters who had taken them correctly assumed that their master was still alive somewhere.
Death reluctantly shimmered to the old run down house where they were being held captive. He knew of all the good that the Longbottoms had managed to achieve; and of their young son, whose name had appeared on briefly Death's list a few months ago. The last thing Death wanted to do was take the souls of another set of parents and leave another young infant alone in the world, but he knew he must. It was the natural order of things.
Death saw Frank Longbottom chained to the wall; he was bleeding severely from the head, and was muttering incoherently but his eyes were focused on his wife who was being tortured by the quartet of Death Eaters.
Alice Longbottom began convulsing violently on the floor under the effect of the brutal cruciatus curse performed by Bellatrix.
"Where is he?" asked the man Death knew to be Barty Crouch Junior.
"I-I-I don't know, I swear," the weak woman simpered as she lay crumpled in a heap on the floor.
The name Alice Longbottom began to flash on his list and he knew the killer blow was about to be made. Death solemnly bowed his head in respect.
"LIES!" screeched the sadistic Bellatrix Lestrange, who had made many appearances on Death's list. "Avada..."
The doors to the house suddenly burst open and Death saw a dozen or more Aurors burst in and incapacitate the Death Eaters.
The names Alice Longbottom and Frank Longbottom suddenly vanished from Death's list and, after one last look at the two unlucky souls, Death shimmered away thinking that death would have been a much kinder fate for the pair.
