Should've Been Me
It was incredibly awkward to have Sasuke back in the village. The plan had been to kill him, but apparently Naruto had worked around it and brought the wayward teen back alive.
Sakura didn't understand the would-be hokage at all. What was he thinking, bringing a wanted criminal into a village full of people he tried to kill? If he was trying to lose points with the villagers, then he was doing wonderfully.
The kunoichi had misgivings about her once-crush and teammate. Sasuke had turned into a monster in the last three years he'd been running around with his group of misfits and she didn't trust him as far as she could throw him.
For some unknown reason, the bastard was still Naruto's most important person, even if Sasuke himself didn't give a crap. She hated to admit it, but she was jealous of Sasuke's role in her blonde's life.
She wasn't an idiot, either. She saw the way Sasuke's eyes glazed over when Naruto worked up a sweat training and the way Naruto would stare longingly after Sasuke when they parted ways to go home.
It wasn't fucking fair. She spent a year with him trying to get Sasuke back and then fought in a goddamn war to protect him.
Why was it always Sasuke that got more of his attention?
Yes, she was bitter and pissed, but Naruto's feelings always came first.
So she was expecting it when Naruto came out to her, told her that he wanted Sasuke to be more than just his friend. She supported him even though it hurt her heart deep inside to know that the teen wasn't pining after her anymore.
And all this time all she could think was, It should've been me.
