Sam and Dylan oneshot , because there aren't enough out there.
She still loved him.
No she didn't.
Yes she did, who was she kidding? Not herself, not Zoe not even Dylan himself. She has been worried sick when he had been trapped in resus. If he had died she would never have been able to forgive herself.
She watched him walk away into the smoke-filled car park. Now everyone knew their secret. She saw Linda's eyes look on with pity. Pity that her husband had nearly got himself blown up? No, pity that she was only a "technical" wife. If she was only technically his wife why didn't they just get a divorce? Because there was still hope...?
She stared at his retreating back, silently wishing. Wishing what? That he'd turn round? That he'd apologise? Once in a blue moon...
It was roughly 5 in the morning and Sam was still sitting on the same bit of pavement. Dylan's dismissal had cut into her. Cut into her deep. The firemen were beginning to salvage the remains of Holby City ED. She sighed. She knew she would have to go home soon. Back to her empty flat. She usually didn't mind the silence, but tonight it would be too much.
"Tea?"
Dylan's voice brought her back to reality. Looking up she found herself face-to-face with a paper cup of Tea. Looking further up she saw Dylan's unreadable face staring down at her.
"Thanks" she murmured, accepting the cup and taking a sip. She had been thinking long and hard for the past 45minutes. She was not prepared to be a "technical wife", even if she still loved him.
"I think we should get divorced." She stated as calmly as she could under the circumstances.
"What?"
"It's not working Dylan, We should get a divorce, quickly, get it over and done with." The words pained her. She stared at the tarmac in front of her, the cup of tea was rapidly cooling in her hands . Just like their relationship had...
"We can't get a divorce" Dylan sounded frustrated, and most of all annoyed.
"Why not Dylan?" She finally had the courage to look up, he had his hands on his hips, and looked like he sounded, with just a hint of confusion .
"Because...Because" He seemed lost for words. He gave a short angry sigh he closed his eyes trying to put words into sentences. Sam knew what he was trying to say.
"Because..." he couldn't get the words out, and closing his mouth he abruptly turned on his heels and stalked across the debris.
For the second time that morning, Sam Keogh found herself staring at her husband's retreating form, half wishing she could really be Sam Nicholls once more.
