Over the past few years I've been doing a lot of writing, rewriting, and re-reading of all my old work, I started this fiction in my Freshman year of High, a very long time ago I might add. I'm rewriting this story, with an attempt, to answer questions, and make it more readable to you guys, because after the first page, my eyes were on fire. Now, I'm still going to have it seem a bit rushed, but I'm also going to change minor details to have later ideas make more sense.
If your still reading this years later, thank you.
(I Do not own M*A*S*H or any of its characters, I'm just a crazy person who can see the characters in a completely different story)
Chapter 1 – Rewrite
The year was 1927, she stood, peering out of the alleyway as a car drove by. It was night, but the full moons light lit of the streets like it was the middle of the day. Her long dark raven hair lifted softly from a gust of wind. Watching a couple walking into a local building caused her to step out onto the sidewalk and make her way over to the building, a speakeasy, this was where she could pick out a drunken slob to feed on. It had been this way for over 100 years and she was growing tired of the same routine.
Little did she know that in just a few short months the night after night grind of living would suddenly change, this was when she met him. The only man she had ever truly given herself too, the one that made her happy, the one that stole her heart.
The night cloudy with incoming rain, the local AM radio station said that it was supposed to thundershower. She was standing outside a local club upset with herself that she couldn't find anyone worth the time. She noticed a small vehicle pull up as she stood, letting the rain wash over her. Drenched she noticed a man get out and run over to her.
"Miss, miss come get out of the rain," He said while running up to her. A taller man, wearing a bowler hat had run up to her shielding the ran from his face. She was hesitant because she had never been approached like this before, but a small pain in her stomach told her otherwise.
"Uh thank you," She said while he ran over and opened the door for her. She climbed in and he closed the door sprinting to his own side getting in.
"Sorry about being forward like that, my names Daniel Pierce, and I saw you out in this storm."
"Angel," she answered quickly as he turned the vehicle over to make it start. She noticed that he was young, maybe twenty, with dark brown hair and soft blue eyes.
"Would you like me to take you home?"
"If you wouldn't mind, Greenbrook and 17th," she wiped a few droplets of water off of her face while looking up at him.
"Oh good! That's not too far from me, I'm on Westmaster and 14th," he gave her a smile. She watched him operate the vehicle, something about him had her intrigued. "I haven't seen you around before, live in Maine long?"
"I only just recently moved here," She watched him smile at her, a warm smile. "I don't have much in the way of family so I wanted to move somewhere new."
"Well that's alright, everyone needs a little change, and since your so close maybe we could go out one night, if that's not to forward." She smiled as they pulled up to a small white house.
"Daniel, you said your name was?" he nodded slight, she smiled, "Well Daniel I'd like that very much." She leaned over gave his cheek a quick peck as she climbed out of his vehicle.
It had been over a week before he decided to contact her, he asked her out to dinner and she agreed. They met outside of the same club he had picked her up at, they spent hours talking over a dinner. He was a doctor, she was a floater, he didn't care, at the time women were known to be stay at home mothers.
He couldn't figure out what attracted him to her so much, and she felt the same way. She hadn't felt this way in a very long time and it almost made her feel human. They danced away the night and met again and again.
It was only a few short weeks into the relationship when Daniel had proposed her to. He had fallen madly in love with the woman who stood in front of him, and she the same. She agreed and the wedding was planned.
They would go out Friday nights and dance the night away, she enjoyed his company, and the life that they had.
Until she grew ill, bedridden and weak. He stayed by her side when she collapsed that night, causing a scene, taken to the hospital and given fluids. The other doctors thought it was dehydration and released her but Daniel knew something was still wrong. He sat by her as she slept back at their home.
"Daniel," he voice was weak.
"Yes my love," he grabbed her hand and moved it closer to his face.
"Daniel, I know what's wrong with me," He looked up to view her eyes. He drew back a bit when her eyes changed in front of him. "Daniel I'm not normal,"
"What happened to your eyes," he leaned in to her. Tears were beginning to form as she laid there.
"I've been lying to you, I've been keeping something from you all this time Daniel,"
"What are you talking about,"
"Daniel, I'm sick because," she paused taking a gasp of air as she cried, "I'm a vampire and I haven't fed," confused Daniel leaned back.
"Honey, vampires, they just don't exist," Daniels voice showed concern. Before he could say another word, Angel moved in front of him, barring her fangs with a loud hiss, he backed away from her, his back hitting the wall as she leaned forward putting her face in her hands while sobbing. Daniel crawled back towards her and tried to calm her.
"I haven't fed, I haven't drank from anyone." Her
"Can't you just drink from me? I could help you."
"I don't want to hurt you Daniel, I don't think I could stop myself if I fed from you," He sat for a moment thinking of what to say. He gulped.
"Even, even if you were Frankensteins monster, I would be there for you, do you want me to get some blood from the Hospital?"
"It doesn't help, and what makes this worse than it already is, I'm pregnant,"
"Your, what?" Daniel smiled. "But can you get pregnant."
"Not all the stories are true," she gave a halfhearted grin. A small pain hit her causing her to grab at her stomach.
"Do you need to go out,"
"I'm not going to involve you in this, but yes I have to." She moved from the bed and grabbed her coat. She had left the house without saying another word to him. Daniel sat at the foot at their bed thinking about the conversation, having it replay in his mind over and over again. He felt confused, he loved her and now knew that he had a child on the way. She had come back later that night, her body cold as she laid next to him. He wrapped his arms around her while falling back asleep.
The next 8 months went by in the blink of an eye, her belly grew as did the late night outings, Daniel never questioned her though. He would watch her leave and would greet her when she came home, but never once asked about what it was like being a vampire. The night came where Angel went into labor, he stayed by her side as she pushed, holding her hand and moving the hair from her face. When the baby cried for the first time Daniel ran to it. The doctors placed the child in his arms, and a grin from ear to ear formed across his face.
"Benjamin," he wrapped his arms snug around the sleeping baby. "Benjamin Franklin Pierce." He looked over to Angel who sat quiet. The doctors left the room to give the parents a few moment of quiet when Daniel handed the baby over to her. Tears began to form in her eyes as she brushed the child's fine black hair. "What's wrong love,"
"Daniel this child is part vampire, and I don't know if he'll need to drink like I do." The statement shocked him. All this time he had never even thought of the subject. "I don't know that I'll be able to give him a normal human life."
"I love him as I do you, if the time comes I will support him as I do you, but let's hope for the best." The baby, now known as Benjamin opened his eyes, a soft blue color starred at them both before closing again and sleeping.
Angel healed faster than the hospital had expected and they left the next day. The ride home was quiet, Angel holding the baby to her as Daniel drove.
"I, I have to take him Daniel," Angel said when Daniel got out of the vehicle and quickly moved over to the driver side of the vehicle. "I have to see if he is just like me."
"What?" He turned around as she was already starting the vehicle and was backing out. He ran after the vehicle as it sped away, he watched when she turned the corner, unable to catch up he ran to the closets neighbor's house hoping someone would be home. He pounded on the door as an older man came to the door. Daniel explained that his wife and just taken their new baby and he needed help tracking her down. Rain started to pour down as they got into his vehicle and drove down the road after her.
"Oh no," the older man pointed to a car that had skidded off the road with its headlights still on. Daniel gasped as he noted that the car was his. It was crashed off the road sitting there, thoughts flooded his mind. The vehicle wasn't even stopped when he opened the door and ran over. Angel lay slumped over the steering wheel, blood dripping down. He looked in the back see to see the child's carrier had been pushed against the side door, Benjamin was crying as he lay tipped over.
"Dear god, Angel, please, Angel" he leaned her body away and saw part of the wheel had broken off, plunging deep into her chest. "Wake up Angel, wake up."
"Dan-Daniel," her voice was almost a whisper.
"Sssh, don't, don't talk, hang on, we'll get you out of here," He looked at the blood oozing from her. The baby was still wailing, and the rain was still coming down hard.
"Haw-Hawkeye, he's, normal," She whispered out.
"Hawkeye? What, what do you mean, Angel, ANGEL," he screamed as her head slumped forward, lifeless. Daniel started sobbing as he left his wife and scooped up the child. The neighbor took them back to the house as they called the police. The funeral arrangements were made the next day.
Days turned into years as Daniel watched his son grow, a quiet child who followed in his father's footsteps studying medicine, interested in how the human body worked. At first, he was a quiet child that shy'd away from the other children, but in time the shyness turned into laughter as he warmed up and started to play with everyone around him. Even becoming a respected milk monitor in the second grade.
By the time he had reached university Benjamin Franklin 'Hawkeye' Pierce, was a fun loving life of the party that enjoyed everything. They would talk every now and then about Angel, but Daniel kept the secret of his mother from him. Never letting on that he was the son of a vampire. It had been almost twenty years with no signs of changing and he decided it was the best to avoid it.
It was a quiet night when the phone rang, Hawkeye ran over to pick it up, the voice on the other end spoke for a few moments before he sunk to his knees. Daniel heard the sound and came in from the other room.
"Hawkeye, what's wrong."
"That was the army, and I've been drafted." He looked, tears in his eyes, Daniel put his hand on his sons shoulder and squeezed. The soft blue eyes he had seen when he was born starred at him.
"It will be okay, I know everything will be okay," The rest of the night was quiet as they sat packing a bag. The instructions from the phone call were to pack a bag of essentials and meet the next morning at the town hall. From there the soldiers would gather, go through inspection and get sent out to their units in the country of Korea.
Morning came with little sleep from each of the men, Hawkeye was now standing in a line before a group of other young men who were all waiting to receive their new favorite color in clothing, as his dad had made the joke. Suddenly a familiar voice came from behind him.
"Yo Hawk," The voice grew closer. He turned around to see a tall curly haired man jogging toward him. The man was John 'Trapper' McIntyre. An all star quarter back that had befriended Hawkeye through university. "You think theres going to be any hot dames in Korea?"
"Trap, your married," They moved up a few steps in line, "Besides that, aren't you worried about, say, getting shot?"
"Nah, I'm more concerned about the cute nurses in their army greens." An ear to ear grin came over his face, "Besides, when do you think you'll be settling down."
Hawkeye was about to answer when the stern looking man who sat behind a wooden desk called out for next in line. They each went through a health inspection and then left from behind the individual curtains that created small rooms. Both the men were dressed in olive colored army greens.
"You know, we don't look to bad in these," Trapper said while inspecting himself.
"I feel like a plant, or a can of olives, or a garbage worker, I mean look at me." He grimaced. The men got their assignments, their ranks and all the information they would need about which buses to take, which flights to get on, and who to look for when they reached their units. Hawkeye left to head home and collecting his things, when he returned his saw his father, sitting on the couch, 'The last of the Mohicans' in his hands.
"Ben, come here a quick moment," his father sighed, fumbling with the book in his hands. "I uh, I think we should talk. Before you go."
"If it's goodbye I don't want to hear it." Hawkeye walked over and sat down in front of his father. Daniel extended the hand the held the book out to his son.
"I think I need to tell you something, about you, and about your mother." His father gazed into the light blue eyes of his questioning son. The conversation proceeded as straight forward as it could have been. Daniel told him of his mother, of Angel, of what she was and what he could be. He spoke about the night she died, the night he found out about her, he told him everything.
"You're crazy," Hawkeye stood when his father was finished. "Those things don't exist, what is this, what are you saying, my mother was a vampire and I might be? Have you lost it?" Hawkeye in a dramatic fashion paced back in forth trying to comprehend the information he had just received.
"It's hard to believe, and I thought it was crazy too, but once I saw them, her fangs, her eyes, everything just clicked in to place. Now look, your twenty two, you haven't shown any signs yet, and you may never. I wanted you to know the truth, if anything should happen to you over there, I wanted you to know everything. I loved your mother, I still love who she was as a person to this day." Hawkeye watched his dad, meeting his gaze, and saw the pleading look in his eyes. There wasn't a day in his life that his father had ever lied to him, why would he start now, on the night he would have to say goodbye, for a very long time.
"Okay, well why now, why say any of this tonight,"
"Something told me, like a feeling I had in the pit of my stomach about you leaving,"
"So I wasn't the only one," Hawkeye rubbed his chin and sat down next to his dad, he softly grabbed the book from his fathers hand and turned it over to read the back cover. "Moms favorite book,"
"She was the first one to call you Hawkeye," He gave a soft smile. There was a honk outside the house from a vehicle that scared both the men.
"That's my ride," They both stood. Hawkeye grabbed his bag full of things and tucked the book inside a side pocket.
"Listen, Ben, you are my son, you will always be my son, no matter what happens."
"I know dad," tears formed in both their eyes. Hawkeye turned and left the house, walking out to the waiting bus that was at the end of his driveway. Daniel stood in the doorway watching the bus pull off the moment he had climbed on.
