Chapter One: The Boy I Found
"Lord Sesshomaru! I'm back!" called Rin, peeking into Sesshomaru's large room. "I got those messages you wanted!"
"Thank you Rin. Hand them here please." Said Sesshomaru, getting up from the chair he was sitting in.
Rin smiled and handed him the papers that his ally from the Southern lands was going to send to him.
"Did you have any trouble?" asked Sesshomaru. Rin often had a difficult time making the messengers believe that the most powerful lord in all of Japan had her as a recipient messenger.
"No. I think that Lord Shigure finally realized that you weren't joking." Said Rin with a tiny wave of her hand.
"Good. You must be tired. Go tell Kekki to run you a bath." Said Sesshomaru, smelling how exhausted she was from her ride into the village that was a few miles from Sesshomaru's palace.
"Yes Lord Sesshomaru." Said Rin; happy to know she was going to be able to have a hot bath. "Oh, Lord Sesshomaru?"
"What is it Rin?"
"I heard the villagers talking of your brother, the half-demon Inuyasha." Said Rin, stopping in the doorway. "Do you suppose he is nearby?"
"Perhaps. Now, off with you." Said Sesshomaru, opening the bundle of papers. As he shifted through them, Rin left and headed toward her rooms, not far off from Sesshomaru's. Her maid, friend and mentor Kekki was waiting for her.
"Are you alright my lady?" she asked.
"Fine. Lord Sesshomaru wants me to bathe. Gods know I need it." Chuckled Rin while Kekki drew a hot bath for her. She stripped from her dirty kimono and cast it onto the floor. She sat down in the clean water, rubbing her arms.
"Lady, how messy you are. Any husband of yours will not clean up after you. You must be tidy." Said Kekki, picking up the discarded kimono.
"Kekki, don't fuss. This is why I have you. To make sure little piglets such as me are made tidy." Laughed Rin, reaching for a bottle of scented hair oil. "I hate how all this dirt is entangled into my hair."
"If you would tie it up, it would not get so messy." Replied Kekki, setting out a towel for the girl.
"Thank you. And I like my hair as it is. I haven't worn it up since I was little and I don't intend to start now." Retorted the girl, making small waves in the water with her hand. "And I don't think you should speak of me having a husband. Lord Sesshomaru doesn't like the thought for whatever reason."
"You know how he is. He cares for you so Lady Rin. He doesn't want to see you get hurt." Said Kekki, using a comb to get out the tangles in Rin's hair. "Come out now."
"Just a little longer please Kekki?" begged Rin. "The water feels so good..."
"All right, all right. Make sure to come out if the water gets chilly." Said Kekki leaving.
Rin rested against the tub's back and sighed. She had seen how the village girls had boys to love and marry them and to have children with. She had seen a few girls younger than herself nursing tiny children. She had never had the chance to meet a boy and the only men she was subjected to, were very old.
'Why does Lord Sesshomaru think I'll be hurt if I fall in love or get married. I wish I could have a little baby like the one Inuyasha's mate has. He was so cute!' thought Rin, remembering when she had seen the tiny babe only once a few years before. Sesshomaru had tried to take the sword known as Tetsuiaga again after Inuyasha and his friends defeated the fiend called Naraku.
A few moments later and Rin got out of the tub and dried her body off with that towel that Kekki had laid out. Changing into a new kimono, she went in search of Sesshomaru. He had left his room and Rin didn't find him in his usual relaxing places. She didn't encounter Jaken either, which told her that the dog lord had taken her note of the villagers as an excuse to search for Inuyasha.
Sighing, she walked back to her rooms and saw Kekki, sitting on a footstool, doing needlepoint.
"Kekki, do you fancy a run?" Rin asked.
"To where Lady Rin?" asked Kekki with a questioning manner.
"To Inuyasha's forest. I want to go. Take me." Demanded Rin.
"My lady, the lord would strongly disapprove-..." Started Kekki.
"I don't care. I want to go see Uncle Inuyasha." Interrupted Rin, who used her private term for her adoptive uncle. If Sesshomaru had heard her, he would have thrown a fit.
"Yes Lady. When shall we go?"
"Now." Said Rin.
"All right. Please hold on." Said Kekki.
Rin smiled and clasped onto Kekki's neck, and who then took the girl into her arms. She had opened the window and now, balancing on the balcony rail, Kekki jumped from it and onto the ground, many feet below. Rin had gotten used to the exciting sensation, having Sesshomaru and Kekki take her for runs when she was younger.
They raced along, past many villages although Kekki took the time to remain well hidden. With Kekki's on going speed, the covered miles in no time at all, and they soon found themselves in Inuyasha's forest.
"It smells so wonderful!" cooed Rin.
"How long do you intend to stay here Lady Rin?" asked Kekki.
"As long as it takes. I said I want to see my uncle, and that is just what I intend to do. My, that's a big tree. How old do you think it is?" asked Rin, heading towards the large tree she spotted.
"It could be hundreds of years old my lady. I think that Lord Inuyasha's village is near here."
"Then," asked Rin. "Let's hurry!"
"My lady, a well!"
"A well Kekki?"
"There." Replied Kekki, pointing at the Bone Eater's Well.
"What do you suppose it's doing all the way out here?" thought Rin aloud, walking into the clearing. Suddenly a shimmer and "whud" came from inside it.
"I don't care what Kagome says, that hurts every time! My poor ass." Said a male voice.
Rin rushed to the side of the well and peered down. A young man, seemingly not but a few years older than her, was sitting in the well with a large pack. He looked up at her with deep brown eyes.
"Are you all right?!" she called down to him.
"What the hell? Who are you!" the boy shouted.
"Kekki, fetch him!" demanded Rin, and the demon jumped in and returned a second later with the human boy. Putting him down he stared at Rin and Kekki with wide eyes. His black hair was tussled, as though he constantly ran his fingers through it.
"Are you okay? Did the fall hurt you?" asked Rin, rushing up to him.
"Lady! Stay back!" warned Kekki. "Who are you boy?"
"I should be asking you that...why are you in Inuyasha's forest? Oh, he isn't going to like that two demons are here...are you after Yoh?"
"I'm no demon!" laughed Rin, finding the boy very amusing. "Do you know Lord Inuyasha personally?" Then Rin noticed the clothes he was in. "My! How strange! I have never seen such a kimono! It's so form fitting!"
"Huh?" blinked the young man.
"Who is this Yoh you speak of?" asked Kekki, pulling Rin behind her. The girl was staring at him like she'd never seen a man before. Which was partially true, since she had not seen or met any men in her age group.
"Man, you don't know? Sorry then, not telling." Chuckled the young man.
"Tell us now!" demanded Rin.
"You can't make me." Retorted the young man, hiking his bag higher over his shoulder.
"Oh yes I can! Lord Sesshomaru said I was a lady and that peasants must do as I say!"
The boy had backed away from her at this.
"S-sesshomaru? That that means you're a spy! Wait till I tell Inuyasha!" he gasped. After this small string of words, he ran towards the village that was near the forest and Kekki started after him. He turned and pulled a small stick out. Chanting something unknown to both the young women and demon, a force field shot Kekki back.
"Wait! I mean you know harm! I came to see my uncle! He is Lord Inuyasha!" shrieked Rin.
The boy skidded to a stop and turned to look at her. "Uncle? And you are connected to Sesshomaru...oh! You must be that little girl that Kagome said tagged along with him."
'Little...girl...'thought Rin, her heart falling. She had never been spoken to before in such a manner and it was very downtrodden to have the first handsome young man she had ever met to put her in such a state.
"Kagome must have been wrong though. You're not little. I guess if you're no spy for Sesshomaru, you may come with me. What's your name?" the young man asked.
"Rin."
"Rin? That's nice." He said.
"What's yours sir Lord?"
"I'm no lord. That's Inuyasha." He retorted.
"What is your name then sir?"
"Hirugashi. Sota Hirugashi." He said.

Author's Note:
Well, there you have it! The first chapter of "When Rin Meets Sota!" Later chappies will get longer, so please, be patient. And since someone is going to ask sooner of later, the ages of the characters are as thus:
Sota: 17
Rin: 15
Sesshomaru: Too old
Inuyasha: Younger than Sesshomaru, but still way old
Kagome: In her twenties
Kekki: Older than Inuyasha, younger than Sesshomaru
If you would like to know the ages of anyone else, please request it in a review. I just hope that you guys refer this story to a lot of people because from what I've seen, not too many people write about the background characters and that's something I do well.
