CLINTASHA HEADCANON
"Barton? Agent Barton, where are you?!" She called out desperately, her emerald eyes glassy with fear. Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton had been out on a mission together- Nothing new, seeing as they were close partners. But on this particular occasion, after deciding to split up, Natasha and Clint had lost contact with one another. Now the feisty red head was determined to find her companion. And quickly, too. "Clint, come on, please answer me."
As Natasha ducked around the corner, her pleas became increasingly more desperate. He had to be around here somewhere, there was nowhere else he could be hiding. The dark corridor seemed to amplify her fear, as she paused in her tracks. She took a sweeping glance around her, lips pursed with concentration. He had to be around here. For the love of God, someone help me, She thought frantically, raking a hand though her tousled hair. Suddenly, a soft murmur sounded out from behind the bend.
"Natasha... Nat, don't- Don't come-" At the words, Natasha sprinted off towards the source of the voice, her features etched with worry.
"Clint? Clint- Where- Oh God!" She gasped, as her gaze fell onto the person she once knew as Clint Barton. He was pale, with sunken in cheeks and deep gashes all the way down his flesh. He had propped himself up against the metal walls, his cobalt eyes misted over with pain. Every minute ticking on was bringing him closer to his death and Natasha knew that. But she wouldn't believe it. Natasha crouched down beside him, heaving him into her arms.
"What happened?" She whispered, refusing to show too much emotion. Her expression was kept guarded, as he reached up to touch her cheeks.
"I was attacked, Nat."
"Are you in a lot of pain?" She questioned, noting the life draining from his eyes. But she wasn't going to let him go... Not yet. Not ever.
"I am, but I won't be suffering soon." He promised weakly, as she turned her face to kiss his palm. Surely he didn't mean...?
"Don't even suggest that, Clinton. It's going to be alright, I promise. I'll contact SHIELD and they'll come and they'll help you? Okay? Okay?" Her eyes widened, as he smirked softly. That simple, snarky smirk she'd grown to love. "Look at me!"
"Nat, it's going to be okay. You'll be okay," He sighed, letting out a gasp of pain.
"No, no, no you can't!" She breathed, her eyes brimming with warm tears. "You can't go yet."
"I don't think I have a choice, Natasha." He murmured, his eyes fluttering shut as his breathing became shallow.
"Clint..."
"I love you, Natasha." He whispered, before his body became rigid and his breathing ceased. Natasha laced her fingers through his cold ones, allowing her tears to fall freely down her face. Her quiet crying soon turned into loud sobs, however. Clint Barton, her partner, the only man she trusted, her best friend and the love of her life, was gone. He'd died and left the world, in her arms. But she couldn't let him go... She was never going to let him go. She needed him more than he ever needed her, but now it was too late.
"...I love you too, Clint."
I always reread this and wish I'd executed this better. Oh well, what can you do, eh? :E Please review, I really want to know how to improve this one 3
